Wendeen Eolis Responds to PokerStars/Full Tilt Deal Report

Breaking News: PokerStars to Pay $731M to DOJ to Settle Full Tilt Repayments and Fines.

On July 27th, Poker Player Newspaper reporter, Wendeen Eolis, reported that the negotiations between PokerStars and the DOJ concerning Full Tilt Poker had come to an end. Eolis reported that a source had given her specific information and Full Tilt Poker customers would be receiving their money before Christmas. The news blasted shock waves throughout the poker industry and community and Eolis is now speaking out on her report.

Eolis stated that since the report was first released this past Friday, over 130 websites have linked the article and Poker Player Newspaper had over 10,000 visits to the site in a forty eight hour period. Eolis decided to create another report because of a forum poster’s statements that they believed Eolis created the article to bring traffic to the website.

Eolis stated she did not post the bulletin to bring in traffic. She created the article to let her readers know that concrete news of ‘significant interest’ to the poker community had been given to hear and she wanted to break the news as early as possible.

Eolis stated in the response:

“The breaking story emanated from a highly knowledgeable source, who allowed the word to get out, on the condition it could not be traced back. Before pulling the trigger, I hesitated for a moment, thinking through the worst case scenario—of being duped, betrayed and set up for a giant burn at the stake. There was absolutely no rational basis for such concern.

Based on the facts as presented to me Friday morning, I was convinced the day had arrived when one could reliably assert that Full Tilt Poker players would regain control of their player balances at the site, in a finite time frame.”

The reporter went on to state that the ‘over-the-top’ media frenzy created by her article as well as the discussions  on the article at various poker forums, presented her with two major challenges. Eolis had to figure out how to keep up with the interpretations and reinterpretations of the article she crated as well as respond to various questions and comments connected to her article.

When the article was released, Eolis was in an area of the US where she did not have cell or internet service. She had dictated the article so it would be published and she was able et post two tweets to her twitter account during the time of publication. Eolis stated that the article was published exactly as she wanted and she stands behind the information she provided. Eolis went on to state that the next edition of Poker Player Newspaper will have more coverage on the PokerStars/Full Tilt Poker story.
