Poker pro Phil Ivey was once a regular face at Full Tilt Poker but after Black Friday in April 2011 all that changed. Ivey represented FTP in the past and now fronts his own poker site Ivey Poker. However, the pro was recently spotted back at FTP after an email surfaced announcing his screen name change.
The news of Ivey’s return at Full Tilt Poker was first released by a ‘ioi’ of Poker.org. ‘ioi’ stated that he received an email from Full Tilt Poker, which explained Phil Ivey’s new screen name change. The email was posted on a Poker.org forum, which can be read here. It seems as though anyone who has played against Ivey under his new nickname have received this email. ‘ioi’s copy read:
Hello ioi, we are contacting you regarding one of your Full Tilt Poker opponents. The player in question plays under the username Phil Ivey.
As you are no doubt aware, we do not allow players to change their screen names. However, in exceptionally rare cases we do allow it. In this instance, we have made the decision, based on a number of circumstances, that this screen name will be changed.
From now on, this player will be using the screen name “Polarizing.”
Our decision to inform you of this change is also exceptional and is not our standard procedure. However, in light of recent events, we feel it is important to make this player’s opponents aware of the change to avoid any unfair advantage being gained.

It seems as though the name change was made since Ivey is no longer a sponsored pro at the online poker room. This is not the first time the site has changed a pro’s screen name, but it is not a common occurance. Ivey has been playing quite regularly over the past few weeks at FTP and this past Tuesday he was the second higher earner of the day. Ivey sat down at the 2-7 Triple Draw tables and was able to earn $145.6k at the $1k/$2k tables. It will be interesting to see how well the pro continues to play over the coming weeks and if he will be able to stay on top of his game.
