The state of Pennsylvania commissioned a study late last year that would cover the current gambling industry of the state as well how online gaming would impact the marketplace. The study was set in motion by the State Senate and it was believed the study would come back in early May, but now we have learned that the findings will be reviewed this coming Wednesday.
According to a report by PokerNews, the Senate Legislative Budget and Finance Committee will present the findings of the study this Wednesday. Kim Ward is a Senator of the state as well as the Chair of the Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee and she stated that the study would see what the overall health of the casino industry is in the state.
Ward explained that the study would help to determine the current status so it could be decided if there is room for expansion into online gaming. The State Senator commented that gaming as a whole in the state needed to be observed before they could tell if there is a space for online gaming.
The outcome of the study should determine whether or not the state moves forward with online gaming options. Currently nearby states of Delaware and New Jersey have licensed and regulated full options so the state is now competing for gaming revenues in the online sense. Players will travel to the nearby borders to be able to participate online or venture to casinos in the neighboring states to have access to both live and online gaming.
So a positive outcome could result in the creation of online gaming legislation. If the study provides a negative outlook for online gaming in Pennsylvania, state legislators may decide to avoid the option for now. By next week, the study will be reviewed and more information will be made public. It will be interesting to see what the study has found and if the state may be one of the next to get started working on internet gaming legislation.
