The state of Nevada has offered online poker for some time now and while the revenues were less than stellar in the beginning, especially when compared to estimates, the state still was doing consistently well. The World Series of Poker boosted the revenues and pushed the state past the $1 million mark for monthly revenues back in June but for the month of September, the state hit a low spot, earning the least amount in online poker revenues this year.
There are three online poker sites available in the state of Nevada: WSOP, Ultimate Poker and Real Gaming. In August, these three sites earned just over $740,000 and for the month of September, the revenues dipped down to $693,000. Official online poker revenues began to be released in the state back in February and this past month is the worst the state has seen in 2014.
The revenues in the state of Nevada have the potential to grow considerably if all firms that are licensed for the option were live. There are still operators that have yet to offer online poker in the state. CardPlayer reported that in the United States, revenues have been predicted to reach $5.2 billion by 2020, and this is a scaled back amount when compared to previous estimates for online gambling. Nevada currently only offers online poker but other states such as Delaware and New Jersey offer poker and casino gaming online.
When you compare the amount earned in June, $1,037,000 to the amount earned in September, $693,000, you can clearly see the impact of the WSOP. The popular poker series helped the state earn major revenues as players from around the world headed to the state to take part in the many WSOP branded events.
Nevada should have the potential to earn more overall revenues in the coming months once the interstate options with Delaware begin, which is expected soon. It will be interesting to see the impact this will have on revenues in the future as compared to the earnings over the past few months.
