New Jersey is one of three states in the US that offers online gaming. Players have access to both online poker and casino gaming, with the industry continuing to thrive. April totals have now been revealed with revenues coming in at $20,822,026. This amount is the second highest total for the state in the history of offering online gaming. April is also the second consecutive month where the state was able to pass the $20 million mark.
Online casino game play brings in the majority of the earnings for the state, with $18,853,649 earned in April. The amount is a 3.3% decline when compared to March earnings but for April but the industry actually set a record in March with over $21 million in total earnings, so the drop is not too significant.
Tropicana AC was able to see a quality month in April, setting a new record for revenues for a second month running. For a while, the Tropicana remained consistent but within the last few months, the license holder has been able to see massive earnings. The operator includes the Tropicana Casino and Virgin Casino with $3.86 million earned in March and $3.94 million for April.
The Golden Nugget Casino was the big earner for April, bringing in more than $5 million. This is the third month in a row that the online casino has earned more than $5 million. This is an amazing feat since the operator does not have an online poker room.
Speaking of online poker, the market is not very strong in the state. The three sites and networks for the state were only able to generate $1,968,377. This is the first time the online poker industry for NJ has earned less than $2 million since June of last year. Revenues were down just over 12% for the month with year-on-year revenues dropping almost 24%. However it should be noted that online poker in April 2016 welcomed PokerStars to the state so revenues would certainly be higher from this time frame.
May should be an equally good month for the state as far as online casino and poker revenues are concerned. For the online poker industry, the state will be seeing the NJSCOOP via PokerStars and BLAST from WSOP/888 take place which should help to generate more in online poker earnings.
