Over the weekend, Party Poker was in the process of upgrading their online poker software when network errors occurred. The latest client upgrade was stopped after the system crash took place on Saturday and the online poker site quickly apologized for the instance.
Party Poker will be refunding players who had game play interrupted or were taking part in events that were cancelled based on the system crash. The failure, with Party Poker yet to find the cause, is believed to be tied to the client upgrade. An online event for the Grand Prix Poker Tour had to be rescheduled and will take place tomorrow instead of last week.
The site has yet to announce when the next upgrade will take place but one could assume the brand will be determining the cause of the system failure before trying to upgrade the gaming software yet again. The site must also consider the promotional events that are set to take place in the coming days and allow these events to take place to avoid any similar issues.
Party Poker has the Powerfest poker series coming up which will have $5 million in guaranteed prize money, events which could hurt the poker room severely if a shutdown took place. The most recent crash took place for seven hours and was in the evening on Saturday. Players were in an uproar, discussing the shutdown on forums as well as social media. The tech team at Party were able to get the site up and running again but there was a small issue on Sunday, with no further problems since.
The statement from Party included information about the crash, discussing that several events had to be cancelled. An apology was made and Party stated that the issue is under investigation. The update was reversed until the full issue is solved. The online poker room went on to state that they understand player frustrations and are working as quickly as they can to issue refunds to players due to the technical difficulties.
