After being postponed earlier this month, the Restoration of America’s Wire Act should be heard on March 26th after rescheduling took place. The bill would prohibit online gaming from taking place on a federal level, harming the existing online poker and casino landscape, starting with Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey online gaming offerings.
March 5th was the scheduled date for the hearing but was postponed due to severe weather that moved into the Washington DC area. The hearing had come under fire as witnesses scheduled to appear were considered to be largely on the side of opponents of online gaming. Despite the push to see the bill passed into legislation, the bill will most likely not move forward as it stands to tear apart the online state lottery system, as well as see opposition from those in the online casino and poker industry.
States who offer online lottery ticket sales will most likely fight the legislation, as several states provide online sales along with state lotteries. With more than 12 states currently offering some form of ticket sales, the states will have their voice heard. Even more states are beginning to push for online lottery ticket sales which will put even more force behind those opposed to the bill. According to Andy Abboud, a representative of Sheldon Adelson, the bill is unlikely to accept exemptions, including state lotteries and tribal gaming.
Tension is mounting with the legislation, as those in support seem to be constantly on the defensive when it comes to the bill. In a recent discussion of the bill, Jason Chaffetz, the Utah Representative who introduced the legislation into Congress earlier in the year, stated that officials who do not like the bill can get their own.

This had many in the industry wondering how a man in his position, as a state senator, could be so out of the loop with technology. Especially considering the fact that he is trying so vehemently to see legislation pass that involves Internet technology.
