Jan Skampa is a poker player from the Czech Republic who has seen a lot of success as of late. His latest triumph came at the European Poker Tour Prague event. Skampa outlasted the five hundred plus players to take down the first place prize.
The event took place at the Hilton Hotel in Prague and had a buy-in of €5,000 and created a prize pool of €2,842,100. The final table was very tough with Luca Pagano, Anthony Roux and Stefan Mattsson all sitting alongside Skampa and the other players.
Once Skampa made it to heads up play he would have to face Eyal Avitan before he could earn the win. Heads up play would last three hours before Skampa would finally take down the tournament. When Skampa earned the win he became the first Czech-born winner at a European Poker Tour event.  Earlier at the EPT Vilamoura, Skampa became the first Czech player to make a final table so everyone knew it would be no time before he earned a win.
Skampa commented: “Winning a large tournament like an EPT in my home town is one of the greatest achievements anyone can have.â€Â Skampa won $1,015,000 US and a seat to the EPT Grand Final which will take place in Monte Carlo in 2010.
