Interstate Online Poker Agreement Reached Between Nevada and Delaware

History has been made once again in the online poker industry for the United States, as both Nevada and Delaware have now signed an agreement which will see the two states sharing online poker player pools. This is the first time that such an agreement has been formed in the US, and sets precedence for other states to begin working together in the industry.

According to a recent report at Bluff.com, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed the deal today to see the two states working together to form the Multi State Internet Gaming Association. During a press conference, Markell stated that everything should be done to make the gaming industry as competitive as it can be.

Sandoval spoke during the press conference as well stating that this is a moment in history, calling the agreement ‘a landmark intersection in the road of the gaming industry’. With the new agreement, the two states will be pooling liquidity and creating the minimum requirements so that other states and operators can join. Players who compete in a different state than their physical location will have to adhere to the laws and regulations in the game play state, according to the agreement.

The framework of the agreement has been set up so that other states can be added if they meet the minimum standards. Every state will be able to earn a percentage based on the rake that players from the respective state pay.

A date has yet to be set for when interstate play will be live but Sandoval is hoping to begin offering the option as soon as possible. Both Governors mentioned during the press conference that New Jersey officials have been spoken too and hopefully will join in the interstate option.

The Multi State Internet Gaming Association has an allowance for each state to decide what games will be made available to players. Operators will then be authorized to what gaming can be offered in the state. This was put in place because states may offer different gaming opportunities. Nevada only offers poker online while Delaware has both poker and casino games. With this allowance, states can choose what to offer their residents.
