Indiana’s French Lick Casino To Fund School Textbooks

Revenue generated from the French Lick Casino will be used to help fund textbook rentals in local school districts. Alva Sibbitt, superintendent of Paoli Community Schools says the plan will save parents between $70 and $100 per student.
One Orleans parent, Neva Strous expressed her excitement, “I have two kids in school, and usually it would be about $225 out of our pockets, and in August we get to keep it in our pockets.”
Another local parent, Julie Osborn stated, “It made my day! I have four children. It’s over $300 for textbooks for me each year.”
The plan to make use of casino-generated funds to offset textbook fees was announced back in June of 2004, before the construction of the French Lick Casino even began. Imojean Dedrick, director of the Orange County Community Foundation who oversees the program, is hopeful that the program will continue beyond 2007.
