Huge Online Poker Revenue Decline in New Jersey

new jersey flagSince late 2013, the state of New Jersey has provided online poker gaming options for visitors as well as residents. Players have been able to enjoy cash gaming, tournament options and special promotions for more than one year, with the state seemingly offering the busiest traffic in the United State online poker industry. Despite the success when compared to Nevada and Delaware, New Jersey is struggling to earn decent revenues from iPoker, having seen a decrease of revenues for the month of February.

The decline was quite large when comparing February 2014 to February of 2015. Online poker within the state only earned just over $2 million which is a decline of 34.2 percent. According to details released by the Division of Gaming Enforcement, the totals combined from January to February from 2014 to 2015 shows a decrease of over $2 million. Last year’s January-February totals were at just over $6.5 million while this year the two months showed combined earnings of $4,345,081.

Last year the state saw the closure of two poker sites, which left only Caesars with 888 and Borgata & PartyPoker offering online poker gaming. The offerings may be small, but the state of New Jersey does dominate when it comes to having top operators in the business and tends to pull in more traffic when compared to Nevada and Delaware. The numbers just are not showing up as well as when the industry first launched.

Online poker is also far less successful than the online casino games offered in New Jersey. The total combined earnings for February for casino and poker gaming comes to $10,404,367 which is just above February 2014 totals of $10,307,086. The casino games are much more popular than poker at this point and continues to bring in higher revenues, helping to improve the overall gaming earnings.
