Borgata and PartyPoker have been busy in the state of New Jersey offering up the popular Garden State Super Series, this time in its 5th edition. The series offers several tournament events and players located in New Jersey can take part. This time around, the online poker sites saw technical issues which resulted in several tournaments being cancelled including the Main Event.
Reports began coming in on popular poker forum TwoPlusTwo around 8pm Jersey time, with players complaining about geolocation issues. Around thirty minutes later, every tournament was paused. This included the Main Event which had started almost four hours earlier. It was after the pause that Party stated that play would resume but between the disconnections and pause, players were taking blinds and antes from inactive players, making it virtually impossible for game play to resume.
The compromised tournaments were then pulled from the lobby between 9:30 and 10pm, according to OnlinePokerReport. This of course caused players to become enraged. The poker network never said a word until thirteen hours later, which then made players even more furious due to the delayed response.
Borgata took to Twitter to state that the failure of the geolocation service impacted the active players on their network and the failure resulted in player locations being unverified. Borgata went on to state that as a New Jersey regulated provider, they must adhere to the regulations and not permit wagering when a location is not verified. The technical support team then worked tirelessly to find the root cause. The issue was finally resolved late in the evening.
Borgata/Party have yet to offer any kind of consolation due to the technical issues with the tournaments. Players have pointed out that in the past when technical problems took place, the online poker sites would offer tournaments with added prize money or host an exclusive freeroll only for those who were affected. For now, nothing has been announced as a way of making up for the issues taking place during the GSSS V.
