Finland to Ammend Gambling Law, Ban Online Poker, Payback Losers.

Finnish Newspaper the Helsingin Sanomat reported today that a government report could be in the works that would amend current Finnish Gambling laws that will let online poker players claim losses from playing poker online.

The report is expected to come from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health as commissioned from the University of Joensuu. The general idea here is to push online gambling sites to block Finland poker players from accessing their websites.

According to the Helsingin Sanomat, losses claimed by Finnish online poker players would be recouped via the online poker site itself, or from the credit card company or other financial service that transacted the deposit. This could be the most effective plan to ban online poker introduced world wide to date.

According to CardPlayer, the purpose of the amendment would be to protect gamblers in Finland…. and children. The Finnish Ministry knowing that they will be the first to introduce a law that is enforced by online gambling losers themselves feels that this law will be adopted by other countries. According to the report by the Helsingin Sanomat, Finns account for about €150 million in gambling expenditures annually. Finns are said to be the 4th leading gamblers in the world per capita.
