The momentum for online gaming in the state of Pennsylvania continues to build as a fifth bill is about to be introduced by republican leaders. Several Senate members will be showing their support of online gaming in the state by introducing a new measure in the near future which would allow such activity to take place.
Sponsored by Senator Kim Ward, the details of the new bill were sent out in a memo mid-week, last week and offered information as to what would be made available if the measure is made law. The bill has three co-sponsors which include: Senator Joseph Scarnati, Senator Elder Vogel and Senator Robert Tomlinson.
The majority of the bill discusses brick-and-mortar casinos, slot machine licensing and online gaming. In the memo, it reads that existing casinos within the state with slots and table games would be eligible to offer online gaming to those who have registered and established an online gaming account. Players will also have to be located within the state’s boarders to take part.
Based on the info of the soon-to-be proposed measure, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board as well as the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs will be required to develop programs for compulsive and problem gambling which will be specifically related to online gaming.
To obtain an online gaming license, operators will have to have a brick-and-mortar presence in Pennsylvania and many casinos have already partnered with companies to build an online platform, to be ready if a bill does become law. With so many bills on the table, it should be inevitable that online poker and casino gaming be legalized at some point in the future within the state.
For now, the state has three bills that have already been introduced and two in the works. It will be interesting to see how the state moves forward and which route is taken to offer online gaming within Pennsylvania.
