Face The Ace Contestant Goes Home Empty Handed

Don Topel had to face one more poker ace and win to earn $1 million on NBC’s new primetime poker show Face The Ace this past Saturday night. Topel had already won in heads up matches against Erick Lindgren and Howard Lederer, both professional poker players and it looked as though Topel had a chance. But after discovering he was to face Gavin Smith it would all be downhill for Topel and he would walk away empty handed.

In episode one Topel first defeated Erick Lindgren to earn $40,000. Topel could choose to walk away with the $40,000 or he could give it up and face the next pro. Topel choose to move ahead and he would then face Howard Lederer.

Again Topel would be victorious in his heads up match and he would win much more, $200,000. So at the end of episode one Topel could take the $200,000 and go home or he could go for the $1 million in episode two. Topel choose to face the last ace and that would be where episode two began.

Topel would begin the episode facing Gavin Smith in heads up play. Both would begin the match with more chips than in the previous two matches and this would prove to be the kicker for Smith to win. Smith was able to win chips from Topel from the beginning of the match and he gained control of game play and never looked back. The pro continued until he took Topel down, dashing his dreams of becoming a millionaire. Topel would go home empty handed but at least he can say he faced a few aces at the poker table and held his own.
