Controversial Tower Gaming Closes its Doors

towergamingOne of the most controversial online sites in online poker closed its doors yesterday.   Tower Gaming ended its online poker life quietly on the Revolution Gaming Network where it offered little value to players.  At the time of the move to Revolution Gaming, known as Cake Poker Network at the time,  most skins on the network were US friendly.  Tower Gaming chose not to accept them and it left them with few players in their pool as most rest of world players have no interest in playing on Revolution Gaming.

Poker players’ balances were moved to Cake Poker.  Casino and sports betting players were sent to Jetbull.  Jetbull uses a number of gaming software platforms including Net Entertainment, IGT and Microgaming.  Jetbull also operates an EveryMatrix platform, which is related to the OddsMatrix platform that Tower Gaming used.  As SBS points out, other failed sites have also used their product.

Tower Gaming launched on the Ongame Network in 2006.  Their controversy began with their affiliation with Bonnuswhores.com, a cybersquatting attempt aimed at capturing search traffic from the popular BonusWhores.com website by adding one extra letter to the domain.  The questionable website proclaimed Tower Gaming as the best online poker bonus.  The company then used email addresses registered to Hollywood Poker to spam players to that domain.

Tower Gaming also broke Ongame Network rakeback rules.  They turned a blind eye to rakeback and also offered bottomless 8x bonuses to players.  Both actions are not allowed by the network.  They were eventually booted from Ongame for this behavior.

Tower Gaming was also the subject of nonpayment complaints from players and affiliates. Players and affiliates are owed at least $100,000 in back pay.  One player is owed $60,000.

Tower Gaming will not be missed.  Most players bailed when the company left the Ongame Network as the under the table deals on a network that does not allow rakeback were the only reason many players chose Tower.  The November 2011 move to Revolution Gaming, called Cake Poker Network at the time, and refusing to accept US players, put the final nail in their coffin.
