After ten years in the online poker industry, PokerRoom.com has shut down. PokerRoom.com was one of the very first online poker rooms and saw great success during its ten years in operation. The website shut down yesterday and players were notified of the shutdown and encouraged to play at Bwin.com

The PokerRoom.com website was founded in 1999 by poker players Oskar Hörnell and Claes Lidell and at its highest point in popularity it became one of the most famous poker rooms available online. When the website began it only offered a small stake Limit Hold’em games but in 2003 the website began offering No Limit at high stakes. The site also began offering Stud and Omaha as well.

Yesterday the PokerRoom blog released a statement about the closing: “Well folks, after almost ten years of fun and games, it is with a heavy heart and a tear in my eye that I have to announce that this is it; as of 11:00 CET today, Tuesday the 14th of April 2009, PokerRoom.com will no longer be open for online poker.”

Bwin.com is encouraging all players of PokerRoom.com to play at their website. The PokerRoom players were given the option to transfer their cash to bwin or cash out their funds. Players who move to the bwin website will be able to take advantage of special bonuses provided by bwin.com.
