The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement finally approved the license application of Amaya Gaming, which means PokerStars and Full Tilt can begin to offer online poker in the United States. The launch date for the brands have not been announced but the major hurdle of gaining approval has been conquered.
Late yesterday, the Corporate Blog of Amaya posted a statement by the CEO and Chairman David Baazov which read: “We are very pleased to add New Jersey to the long list of regulated markets that have found PokerStars and Full Tilt suitable to offer real-money online gaming.”
When PokerStars is launched, it will be an important milestone for online poker in the United States. The operation of the company in New Jersey will signify the first time the site has been available since shutting down in April of 2011 due to the crackdown by the US Department of Justice.
After Amaya Gaming acquired the Rational Group in 2014 for a price of $4.9 billion, Amaya quickly began to work on providing online poker gaming in the US. The Division of Gaming Enforcement in New Jersey began the review process of PokerStars 14 months ago, an extremely long amount of time. The review included the operations and technology used by Amaya, interviews of 70+ individuals with visits to international jurisdictions.
Amaya revealed in the blog post that the ‘stringent review of PokerStars’ was found to be under the ethical and trusted ownership and management of Amaya and is worthy of offering their services in the state of New Jersey with the regulated online gaming marketplace.
PokerStars should be able to get started easily as Amaya Gaming already has a partnership with Resorts Casino Hotel which is located in Atlantic City. Part of their agreement, PokerStars will be providing casino and poker games to residents and visitors to New Jersey.
