Poker Tournament: Irish Poker Championship 2008 Kicks Off Today

Raddison IrelandThe Party Poker Irish Poker Championship 2008 kicks off today under mild snowfall in Galway City located in Ireland. The event is to be hosted by the Radisson SAS Galway Hotel.  This event will mark the first ever poker major poker tournament sponsored by online poker giants Party Poker. The event will be spread over two days in total, kicking off today and carrying over throughout tomorrow.

Entrants pay a €2,000 buy in to play in the poker tournament and take a stab at winning their share of a €542,380 (approx 799,333 USD) prize pool. More than 400 poker players were expected to be in attendance, breaking attendance records from both 2006 and 2007. However early numbers show a little less than 300 registered players for the event. The two prior events of the Irish Poker Championship (IPC) were held in Dublin Ireland.

Poker Table personality Marcel Luske is one of many professional poker players expected to attend the IPC tournament today, in addition to well known announcer Mike Sexton.
