Bill Elder Wins WSOP Event 45 from the Short Stack!

Bill Edler began the WSOP Event #45, $5,000 Six Handed No Limit Hold'Em, with the shortest stack, but came out on top. Edler entered the short-handed event with 535,000; a great contrast to his leading opponent Erik Friberg at $2,795,000. The starting line-up for this event was:

Seat 6 - Erik Friberg, $2,795,000 WSOP Chips
Action was delayed twice as Event #49 saw record setting attendance, followed by the disappearance of Luong, who was nowhere to be found at the start of the event. Perhaps Luong's temporary vanishing act was a foreshadowing of things to come as the Tunica WSOP Circuit winner became the first man to leave the table eight hands into the match, walking away with a 6th place prize of $110,860.
Dutch Boyd was the next man out on hand twelve as Edler pushed all-in with A-7 while Boyd called with J-J. The turn revealed an Ace, ending at 8-5-3-A-8 and sending Boyd home with a 5th place prize of $169,369.
Greg Pohler was soon extinguished, knocked out by Erik Friberg to take a 4th place prize of $232,669.
Friberg's victory shot him back into the lead, but was short lived as Edler took a large pot only a few hands later, eventually knocking Friberg right out of the event. With a 3rd place prize of $345,582, Friberg made his departure.
At hand 95, heads-up play began with Edler and Bolotin remaining; near even in chips. Edler raked in a whopping $2,100,000 on hand 98 with a full house.
The final hand, 107, saw Edler delivering a pre-flop raise, which prompted Bolotin to push all-in. Edler took several minutes before deciding to call, which faired poorly holding A-10 to Bolotin's A-Q.
However, when the flop came down at 10-3-3, Edler's prospects arose. The turn revealed 5 and river 8, sealing Edler's victory.
Bolotin was awarded 2nd place at $504,686 while the champion Edler took 1st, $904,686 and a WSOP bracelet.
