According to a recent report by Reuters, officials in the state of Nevada are currently working with MGM Resorts International to try and come up with a plan to work with the state of New Jersey. The two states could band together to create a venture that combines the online gaming options from both states. Reuters interviewed the CEO of MGM Resorts International, Jim Murren and he spoke about the recent developments with online gambling in the US.
According to the interview, Murren states that by 2014 the two states will have created a compact to combine forces. Murren has stated in the past that the state of Nevada may not have enough residents to provide a large online gambling market in the state. If they worked with New Jersey, they would have a larger pool which would generate more revenues.
Murren is apparently not the only one who believes the two states are going to be working together soon. According to Reuters,Chairman of the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, A.G. Burnett stated:
“Nevada is striving to do what it can in regards to compacts. We do not jump into the fire without having done a lot of cautious research and study into the particulars of such agreements, and that phase is nearing completion.”
The MGM group has created a team that works solely on their online gambling efforts and the team is working to prepare a ‘state-by-state basis’ and are determining which states will be productive for the company with their online gaming goals. The team has determined that the best states to work with at the moment would be New Jersey, New York, California and Illinois.
Most poker and gambling fans in the United States hope that the options continue to grow and more states will begin to legalize and regulate online gambling options. These first few steps are definitely ones in the right direction.
