With online poker either in operation or in the works in a few US states, it is not surprising that more serious talks have finally sprung up regarding interstate compacts. With this option, player pools would be expanded and online poker liquidity would be enhanced greatly for each individual state.
It has now been reported that the state of Delaware is in talks with Nevada to come to an agreement on an interstate compact. The move would bring an undeniable amount of added revenue for legalized poker options in both states.
Vernon Kirk, the Lottery Director for the state of Delaware, recently confirmed that the discussion for interstate options have indeed been taking place between their own state’s legislators. With the population in both states being so low, a compact between the two that would “pool” their players together would only increase the appeal of legalized online poker – as well as overall revenue.
The state Lottery Advisory Council of Delaware met recently and all three casinos of the state sent representatives to meet with their officials to further discuss such matters. Gaming suppliers were also in attendance to discuss the concerns that could plague the gambling industry in the state.
Several concerns were up for discussion including competition from Maryland, a neighboring state. Maryland Live!, a new casino in the state, has seen significant revenue increases and this could be due to the fact that they are taking away Delaware clientele.
The online gambling options in Delaware could be a long term solution to this concern when the option goes live later this year. Delaware has chosen to work with 888 Holdings, Williams Interactive and Scientific Games. The trio are currently working on regulations to get online poker up and running by the end of 2013.
The proposed regulations for online gambling in the state have been released to the public and are up for comment until the end of this month. We should see the state moving quickly after this month to get the option ready for live game play.
