60 of the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship field has been set with the last four places to be filled with special qualifiers. This tournament will draw players and place them in a bracket style board much like the NCAA basketball tournament. Like March Madness, this tournament has produced a lot of excitement in the poker world since its debut in 2005.
This event is made particularly special due to its invitation only set up and most of the professional invited this year have already confirmed they will be present. The tournament is held at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and will begin at the Pure Nightclub on Feb. 28th with a party to draw the match-ups and set the board. Each player will pay a $20,000 buy-in and the eventual winner will take home $500,000.
The field will consist of a wide variety of poker players including those from Hollywood like, Jason Alexander and Brad Garrett. Also there will be those present that have had success in poker and entertainment such as Shannon Elizabeth, Gabe Kaplan and Jennifer Tilly.
This tournament title is important because the field is full of some of the best poker players in the world and this year is no different. Schedule to play is the 2007 WSOP heads up champion Daniel Schreiber, David “The Dragon†Pham (Card Player – ‘07 Player of the Year), J.C. Tran (All In – ’07 Player of the Year), Jerry Yang (current WSOP Main Event champion), Tom Schneider (’07 WSOP Player of the Year) along with three previous National Heads Up Champions Phil Hellmuth, Ted Forest and last years winner – Paul Wasicka.
