MGM Grand at Foxwoods to Open By Spring

August 23, 2007

The MGM Grand Casino at Foxwoods is set to open next spring and will double Foxwoods’ existing convention space and help in other areas as well. Foxwoods has recently hired Lou Hammond and Associates as AOR to help promote the new facility.
Sur Dorn, a Lou Hammond VP said they will continue with the current advertising and marketing and will target other outlets in the local, regional and national market places that are interested in the spas, restaurants and shops that Foxwoods has to offer.

"We want to build excitement and anticipation for the new properties between now and next spring, but at the same time continue to create publicity for the existing Foxwoods products. We're really going after the consumer who is looking for a luxurious East Coast experience." Dorn said.

Foxwoods rival, Mohegan Sun also said it will be communicating the features of its new facilities. Features including a new hotel, larger gaming areas with additional tables and new shops and restaurants.

The senior VP of marketing Anthony Patrone said the Mohegan Sun has promotional activities planned that include the hosting of auctions by Christie's, Basketball Hall of Fame ceremonies, and tie-ins to the WMBA franchise Connecticut Sun that the casino owns and operates.

Adding, "We really need to be as broad as we can in these efforts. It really is a challenge for us to have such a spectacular facility but get people to realize that it's not just some barn in the middle of nowhere."
