California Poker Players Conference in Session

October 21, 2007

October 20th, 2007 brought the first day of the California Poker Players Conference (CPPC).  This two day conference is being held amidst the National Championships of Poker at Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, California.

Mike Caro is the keynote speaker and it was reported that as his wife was welcoming patrons to the Conference, he humbly and quietly went around the entire room to meet and shake hands with everyone in attendance.  Other special guest speakers included Barbara Enright, Vince Burgio, Susie Isaacs, Charlie Shoten, Tony Guerrera and Marsha Waggoner. Exhibits were set up to sell books, ask questions and chat about poker by some of these players.

Also in attendance, is the Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), John Pappas, spoke about poker playing legal issues as well as a UIGEA breakdown. He provided computers to be used by those in attendance for the purpose of emailing Members of Congress regarding issues related to poker rights.   Pappas also shared his enthusiasm about the Policy Conference the PPA is holding in Washington, DC on October 22nd through October 24th, 2007.  In attendance will be some of the world's top poker professionals and PPA members as well as numerous Members of Congress, in which Pappas worked hard to recruit to attend, who will have impact with their votes on the important Poker Issues.

Day two of the CPPC is currently going on today with discussions about the 2008 World Championship of Poker (WSOP) and the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative.
