£1 million For the WSOPE Champ

The World Series of Poker Europe reported today that there was 362 players in the WSOPE Main Event making the total prize pool £3,620,000. Betfair, the online poker site sponsoring this event, also announced today that they will add nearly £57,000 to the prize pool.

"Top prize in our European Main Event is now a cool £1 million," said Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner. "We have Betfair to thank for that."

The will increase the winners take from £943,010 which is what it was under the new payout structure implemented during the Las Vegas tournament, to the £1 million.

The new payout for the main event final table will be:

  1. £1 million
  2. £570,150
  3. £381,910
  4. £257,020
  5. £191,860
  6. £152,040
  7. £114,030
  8. £85,070
  9. £61,540

Ben Fried, Betfair's head of poker stated, "We are in this for the long-term and this is the most prestigious poker event in Europe. I think a £1 million first prize sets a good benchmark to build upon in the years to come."

The 36th place finisher will get paid a total of £27,150

"Nearly all of the world's top poker players entered the World Series of Poker Europe, making it one of the most competitive poker tournaments in European history," Pollack said.

"Anyone who plays well enough to make it to the top 10% of the field deserves - and will get - an excellent return on their investment."
