PartyGaming has just announced that a legend in poker is set to participate in the Party Poker Premier League IV. Doyle Brunson is the latest addition of poker pros to be participating in the event. So far eleven poker pros have signed up to compete and one online qualifier will be participating in the event.

The Premier League IV is set to start on February 12th and continue until the 18th. The event has a buy-in of $100,000 so players will be competing to win a piece of a massive prize pool. Joining Brunson in the event is Daniel Negreanu, David Benyamine, Vanessa Rousso, JC Tran, Phil Hellmuth, Roland de Wolfe, Luke Schwartz, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Tony G.

Brunson commented on participating in the event by stating: "I'm happy to have the challenge of playing against all these great players. I know a lot about many of them but, of course, all the young players from the internet are very aggressive good players. It is impossible to make a favorite to win this because every player in this field is capable of winning. I feel I have as good a chance as anyone."

Team Party members will be competing for one of the two final spots. The other seat will go to an online qualifier from Party Poker. The event is going to be filled with the best poker players in the world so it will definitely be an exciting tournament. It will be interesting to see how well the online qualifier plays against the poker pros. Who knows, we may see the next new poker pro come out of the Premier League IV if the online qualifier does well.

Phil Ivey Earns Top Spot on All Time Money List

January 26, 2010

Being at the top of poker’s all time money list is a goal of just about every poker pro. Professional poker players show their skills by how much money they are able to earn at the poker table. The top spot of the all time money list recently saw a name change when poker pro Phil Ivey earned second place during the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge.

Daniel Negreanu had held the top spot for the past few months after he finished in second place in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. Ivey earned a second place finish in the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge when he was knocked out by Dan Shak.

Ivey earned a prize of AUD 600,000 which is $544,219 in US dollars. This amount brought his career winnings to $12,804,433. Negreanu was sitting at $12,432,367 so Ivey only passed him by just under $400,000.

Ivey is a highly recognizable poker pro and he is considered by many as the best all around poker player competing today. Ivey won his first WSOIP bracelet in 2000 and for the past eight years he has earned more than $1 million each year.

It will be interesting to see how long Ivey will last at the top spot of the all time money list. Will Negreanu earn a nice win to move back up to the top spot or will Ivey continue to hold the number one seat. Jamie Gold is not far behind, as he sits third on the list, so we could see him move up in the standings.

Below is a list of the top ranked players on the money list

BRITISH POKER PLAYER JAKE CODY WINS EPT DEAUVILLE FOR €847,000

January 26, 2010

Jake “neverbluff67” Cody from Rochdale in the UK has won EPT Deauville for a first prize of €847,000 after besting a record-breaking field that included two former world champions and 13 EPT champions.

The 21-year-old online pro, who recently cashed in Galway at the new PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour, was playing his first ever EPT. He beat Romanian Teodor Caraba after a two-hour heads up battle.

Cody, who also wins a seat to the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo in April, said: “This is so overwhelming. It's the sort of stuff I dreamed about with my mates just a few weeks back. I feel like I should be asleep as I can't believe this is happening.”

Canadian Mike “Timex” McDonald, who won EPT Dortmund in Season 4, had hopes of becoming the first ever EPT double champion but was eliminated in third place. Team PokerStars Pro and PCA champion Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, also in the running for a second EPT victory, was knocked out in ninth place.

A total of 768 players entered the EPT Deauville main event at Casino Barrière, generating a total prize pool of €3,686,400. A hundred players won their seats to the event on PokerStars.

Team PokerStars Pro and former world champion Peter Eastgate made his second final table appearance, coming eighth for €70,000 while fellow pro Luca Pagano again broke his own record by achieving his 14th EPT cash – and third this season. He was knocked out in 72nd place for €10,900. Other Team PokerStars Pros to make the money were Dario Minieri, from Italy, and Vadim Markushevski from Belarus.

Martin Kabrhel from the Czech Republic also made poker history when he beat Frenchman Antony Lellouche heads-up to win the €20,000 EPT High Roller event for €250,000. Kabrhel has now won side events at the last three EPTs in Europe – the €2k in Prague, the €2k in Vilamoura and EPT Deauville. Kabrhel has now earned at least €400,000 at EPTs and Lellouche more than €900,000.

French player Audrey Guyonvarch won the €220 Ladies Event for €5,800. The 89-strong field included – thanks to French anti-discrimination laws - four men. Dagmara Aleksandrowicz, who won the EPT London Ladies Event, came tenth.

EPT spokesperson Kirsty Thompson said: “EPT Deauville has been a huge success yet again with a warm welcome from Casino Barrière. We had a record-breaking turnout with 768 players and there were some incredible performances - especially from the winner Jake Cody, Team PokerStars Pro Peter Eastgate who came eighth and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier - who so nearly made the final. Congratulations also to Luca Pagano for his record 14th cash.”

PPA Applauds Poker Players’ Efforts to Aid Haiti

January 25, 2010

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group with more than one million members nationwide, today commended the generosity of poker players in contributing to support relief efforts in Haiti.

“Like the rest of the world, the poker community is eager to do anything it can to aid Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake.  I applaud PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Cake Poker for providing poker players across the globe an easy way to make a contribution,” said former Senator Alfonse D’Amato, chairman of the PPA.

The sites have set up special pages where players can easily donate to Haiti relief efforts.  Full Tilt and Cake Poker, for example, are offering online tournaments where all registration fees are donated to the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders or UNICEF.  In addition, players on all three sites can quickly and easily transfer funds directly from their online accounts on the sites to a Haiti Fund that will be given to those organizations.  All three sites will match every donation made, dollar for dollar.

More than 50,000 players have donated, and more than $760,000 has been raised.  With the dollar for dollar match, the donations on behalf of the online poker community will be in excess of $1.5 million.

“The generosity online poker players are showing makes me even more proud to be part of this community,” said D’Amato.

Dan Shak Wins Aussie Millions $100,000 Poker Challenge

January 25, 2010

This past Saturday the 2010 Aussie Millions $100,000 AUD No Limit Hold’em Challenge began at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia with twenty four poker pros competing. The tournament offered a prize pool of $2.4 million with the winner earning the majority, a prize of $1.2 million. On Sunday the final table was in action with eight players ready to fight for the nice first place prize.

When final table play began, Dan Shak would be in the chip lead and it would help him make it to heads up play. It would be just about ten minutes before the first player would be eliminated. Howard Lederer went all in with A-10 but he ran into pocket aces held by Tony G. so Lederer was out in eighth place.

Billy Jordanou would double up from Tony G to make his stack much bigger. Tony Bloom would double up as well when he took on Barry Greenstein. Then Shak doubled up after taking on Jonathan Karamalikis.

Karamalikis then went out in seventh place when he ran into Shak’s pocket nines. Greenstein was then down in chips and he went all in with Q-10 and Bloom called. Bloom held pocket kings and would knock out Greenstein in sixth place.

A little while later Tony G would go out in fifth place and he would be followed soon by Tony Bloom and Billy Jordanou. This would leave Phil Ivey and Dan Shak to compete in heads up play. When heads up play began Ivey was in the chip lead but not by much. Shak would pull even with Ivey soon after heads up play began and he would eventually gain a slight lead.

Shak would then take a large lead and would eventually earn a win. On the final hand Ivey would open with a 100,000 raise from the button. Shak would re-raise all in preflop and Ivey would make the call. Ivey held A-10 Diamonds while Shak held A-7 Clubs. The board would run Q-7-5-4-4 and Ivey would be eliminated in second place. Shak would earn the title win and the $1.2 million prize.

Final Results:

1: Dan Shak — $1,200,000
2: Phil Ivey — $600,000
3: Billy Jordanou — $300,000
4: Tony Bloom — $200,000
5: Tony G — $100,000

Kentucky Supreme Court – No Decision Reached

January 23, 2010

The online poker industry was waiting for a decision this past Thursday to come from the Kentucky Supreme Court but it didn’t happen.  The case in question involved poker where 141 online gambling domain names were seized and subject to forfeiture.  Included in the gambling domains were Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.

But a verdict wasn’t reached so now everyone has to cross their fingers until at least the middle of March.  A lot of people aren’t too concerned about the delay including the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMega).

In a recent interview iMega Chairman Joe Brennan said that the origination expects to get a positive verdict for the owners of the 141 domains that are in question. “As far as we’re concerned, we’re confident that we’ve won in Kentucky. We’ve moved on.”

In October the Kentucky Supreme Court heard all arguments in the case and then in December Commonwealth attorneys filed a motion to add names to the case, stating, “The Commonwealth has learned the identity of certain entities and individuals involved in internet gambling operations, some of whom are U.S. citizens. The Commonwealth asks for leave to amend its complaint to add causes of action against these individuals and entities.”

The next date where the Kentucky Supreme Court could possibly come to a decision on the case is March 18th.

TJ Cloutier’s 2005 WSOP Bracelet on Auction at Ebay

January 20, 2010

Ever wanted your very own WSOP bracelet? Well here's your chance, according to an ad at eBay, where the seller claims to be selling an authentic, 2005 World Series of Poker $5k No Limit Bracelet, acquired directly from three-time WSOP champ T. J. Cloutier. The kicker is that the seller is a Pawn Shop in Plano, Tx, just about 6 miles from Cloutier's home town of Richardson, Tx.

It is true that Thomas James Cloutier did win the 2005 WSOP 5k No Limit Hold'em event, where he claimed one of his six WSOP bracelets, along with over $650k. Cloutier gained his first WSOP bracelet in 1987 in the WSOP $1,000 buy-in Limit Omaha event. He landed 2 more bracelets in 1994 playing $1.5 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo and $2.5k Pot Limit Hold'em at the 25th Annual WSOP, with a combined total prize of nearly $300k. WSOP Bracelet number four was obtained in the 1998 $2.5k Limit Omaha Hi/Lo WSOP event, and Cloutier's 5th bracelet came in 2004 playing $1.5k Seven Card Razz. If this is indeed Cloutier's 2005 WSOP $5k No Limit Hold'em bracelet, it would be the sixth - and last - that Cloutier has won.

The starting bid on the possibly-genuine WSOP bracelet is $2,999.00 USD, and so far there are 0 bids. While the seller has an excellent track record at eBay - 100% Positive feedback out of 314 comments – it may prove difficult to ascertain the authenticity of the Plano, Tx pawn shop's claim before the auction ending date of January 24th at 1:34:57 pm PST.

The 2010 World Series of Poker will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Rio Hotel & Casino. Several of the buy-ins for the WSOP events have been reduced from $1.5k to $1k, and many online poker rooms, such as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, hold satellite tournaments for the WSOP every year, in which you can compete for the chance to win your own WSOP bracelet.

January 19, 2010

Full Tilt Poker has announced an addition to their online poker room that according to Full Tilt ‘is set to revolutionize the online poker industry’. The new addition is called Rush Poker and it is a new poker format available at the online poker room.

Rush Poker gives players a high speed poker experience. The game is designed to minimize the wait time between hands so players can continue to experience the poker action at all times. Players will be dealt up to four times more hands per hour during Rush Poker than in standard ring game play.

Ayre commented in a recent press release: "It's a disaster in Haiti. I know they've had a tough go from Mother Nature recently, what with the hurricane and now this earthquake, but I cannot help but be disgusted with the ruling elite that have driven this country down like this while, no doubt, filling their own pockets. That being said, the innocents are, as always, the ones paying a horrendous price for this elite thievery and I think the global online gaming community has a duty to do something."

Ayre has asked his foundation, the Calvin Ayre Foundation, to send the money to Oxfam and then he will be matching all donations made by an online gaming person up to $1 million dollars. Ayre commented: “in a situation like this, each of us has a duty to help. Let’s do it!”

The Calvin Ayre Foundation was founded in 2005 and is a private and independent foundation with a charter to do charitable work around the world. The Foundation has pledged million of dollars and hundreds of man hours to help support those in need throughout the world.

Those interested in making a donation can visit this link: www.calvinayre.com/online-gaming-news-article/calvin-ayre-challenges-industry-help-haiti/2010/01/14/. There is also a link to Oxfam where anyone can give a donation to the relief efforts.

2010 PCA Ladies Event won by Vanessa Rousso

January 13, 2010

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure finished up recently and one of the events during the series was the $1,000 Ladies Event. This event saw 91 ladies turn out to compete over two days to try and win the first place prize. In the end it was Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso who would claim the title.

Rousso would have to get past other PokerStars Pros as well as poker pros and PokerStars qualifiers. Rousso commented on the tournament by stating: “There were a couple of pros who played. J.J. Lui was in there, Annette Obrestad. There was a bunch of good players. Obviously you have to run well in any tournament you play in. but I didn’t make any mistakes that I know of, I played well and I’m happy with the way I played. Starting the year off with a victory is really cool.”

Out of the 91 players, 16 would cash out during the tournament. Each would earn a piece of the $88,270 prize pool. Halli Pinson was one of the prize winners, who went head to head with Rousso in the end of the tournament. Pinson commented to PokerStars on the field during the competition. She commented:

"This event was a lot more serious than most ladies tournaments. I didn't recognize that many faces, but the field seemed a lot more experienced than usual.
