Poker Tournament Robberies Running Rampant This Month
October 29, 2009
The month of October has not been a great month to hold poker tournaments with friends. A string of robberies have happened in different states throughout this month. The first we reported on was in Oklahoma which was followed by a robbery in Pennsylvania. Just this past week, a robbery happened in Cleveland, Ohio during a poker game and over $11,000 was stolen from the players.
The robbery took place this past Monday night at an Apartment. Seven players were in the residence when two robbers holding assault rifles came in and stole their money. The robbers forced the seven players to remove their pants and then proceeded to spray the players with pepper spray. The robbers then ran out of the apartment with the cash.
A player from Monday night’s game commented that the tournament was listed on a Web site that is dedicated to local poker games. The man told the host of the game to warn him about security and urge him not to advertise where the game was going to be held. The robbers most likely used the information on the site to know where to go and then proceeded to rob the players.
The robbers got in to the apartment because one of the players went outside to smoke. A robber put a gun to the smokers head and then forced the player to take them inside. Another player heard the knock and opened the door to see the suspects with the guns and was ordered to get on the ground along with the other players. The robbers then told the players to remove their pants and proceeded to put the player’s pants, wallets and money into two bags.
The suspects then led the men into the kitchen where they were sprayed with pepper spray. After the robbers left, one player was able to find the bags of clothes strewn nearby just after the police arrived. Police are currently still investigating the case.

What’s that you say? SallyWHO?
October 25, 2009
Whatever it is that you say, you’d better be certain to specify that it is indeed opinion, or actual factual documented fact, as Sally… what’s-her-name. Is on the war path, in my opinion.
In a 2+2 online poker forum update, regarding recent Full Tilt Poker lawsuits, there was some confusion over the names SallyWoo and SillySal (also known in online poker rooms as pokergirl_z). One of these Silly Sally’s is currently salivating over her lawsuit with Full Tilt Poker. The rumor is that the SillySal, not to be mistaken for SallyWOO is accused of using online poker bots to beat the tables at Full Tilt Poker.
The poker room then ceased the poker players cash, froze the account.
Another rumor is that SillySal admitted to using the bots.
SillySal seems to be in a SueingSal mood however, and denies making any such claim. First things first, this silly sal would like to their identity cleared. Second on the agenda, you to could be seen in a suit by sal, if you start saying silly things.
SillySal Said:
am not sallywoo
and to you, sallywoo, i did not admit to using bots... but if you want to continue to post false and injurous statements be aware that you could be sued for libel... just letting you know in case you did not have this information.
ss
SallyWoo had this to say:
Some people calls and me told that I be the mentioned in poker for wrong accuse. I never done the bots. This a sillysal player who did the admit it. I promise, I SallyWoo never did the bot. The Sally was wrong mentioned. People be the misunderstood and Sally name was used wrongly.
SallyWoo
Sally sells seashells by the seashore.
She sells seashells on the seashell shore.
The seashells she sells are seashore shells,
Of that I'm sure.
She sells seashells by the seashore.
She hopes she will sell all her seashells soon.
If neither he sells seashells
Nor she sells seashells,
Who shall sell seashells?
Stay tuned for more nursery rhymage later. In fact, we might even touch on those other FullTilt poker lawsuits. Here's the thread if you'd like to join in the banter.
Verbal Abuse at the Poker Table has Visable Consequences.
October 25, 2009
Have you ever felt the burn of an attack at a poker table? You know what I’m talking about here right? A donk makes some UNBELIEVABLE calls, all the way down to the river, hit’s the absolute nuts, and doesn’t even realize it.
All of the regs (regulars at the poker table) are sitting there with that knowing smile, waiting for their sharky buddy to scrape in a huge pot, when someone at the table, generally not even the dealer points out that the table drunk made a hand!
In fact, the guys holding the absolute nuts, while making audible excuses for calling the river. He has no idea he’s won, and neither does anyone else at the table, as is apparent by the dropped jaws all the way across the felt.
Not a happy moment for Sharky.
Sometimes this situation becomes a bit uncomfortable, as the player who just tasted that juicy big pot realizes he will be stopping by McDonald's on the way home from the poker club tonight, when only moments ago he was dreaming about a big fat juicy steak.
It has become acceptable to publicly ridicule other players at a poker table, most especially if you’re rudely pointing out what idiots they are, when you only moments ago were so very glad they were idiots.
In fact, the situation does not have to be this severe. It’s become commonplace to out the donks right at the poker table.
It’s unclear how a player benefits financially from these verbal beatings, as the fish player obviously does his best to defend himself, looks around the table for support, finds none, and never returns to that poker room with his bankroll.
After all, most unskilled poker players are out looking for a good time are they not?
Poker is known widely as highly social game, and it’s a game of math. Therefore, it’s a great opportunity for players from multiple social circles to get out and socialize, hence the popularity of mid-level poker tournaments.
Imagine how this public ridicule and the raw anger being directed at the ‘unskilled’ poker player has to feel for a moment.
In fact, poker players sit in wait for hours at a time waiting for one another to make the smallest of mistakes so that they can profit from a days grinding.
Only to ridicule the player that made the mistake?
Witty 2+2 forum users suggest singing the song shown in the Youtube video here to the table bully, just after felting the fellow for the night. A sort of re-bully maneuver. That only works however if the ridiculed player actually does win all of the bullies money, or at least $50.
In a game where manners have been thrown right out the window in many situations. There are consequences, and as we learned reading a recent Pokerlistings.com story, even poker pro’s are real people, with very real feelings.
In an interview, actress and returning pro poker player Jennifer Tilly admitted that she was actually hurt by the things she read on the popular online poker forum 2+2.
In fact, the gorgeous poker prowess was ridiculed right out of the game.
Looking back, Tilly admitted she found it all rather hurtful and it was one of the reasons she decided to leave the poker world behind.
"I did get very discouraged because lots of times you read online, people are saying all these horrible things about you, people who don't know anything about your game or your stats or anything," she said.

'I'm kind of in a place now in my life where I don't care what people think.'"I had to get my computer expert to break the link to Two Plus Two, because Two Plus Two is like crack. Those guys are really smart and funny and I would go there every day and laugh and laugh and laugh, until I saw something bad about me and I would feel really horrible."
But after a little soul searching in her time away from poker, Tilly feels she's now more equipped to handle the criticism.
Much of Tilly’s criticisms came from an infamous hand Tilly played against the stunningly sexy Patrik Antonius.
Tilly put Antonius on a monster hand, believing her pocket jacks were the underdog preflop. When she flopped trips, she made a bet, however, when the turn came king, she slowed way down and checked it on down. The river was an additional king, giving Tilly a boat. However, putting Patrik Antonius on quads at this point, she again checked.
The poker industry as a whole rushed to ridicule the fun loving (if not a touch hyper) Tilly for her misread.
Video’s showed up on you tube, and of course there was plenty of banter in poker forums all over the Internet.

Pennsylvania Poker Tournament Players Robbed
October 21, 2009
Yet another poker robbery has taken place in the United States and this time it was in Heidelberg, Pennsylvania. Just a few weeks ago a robbery took place in Oklahoma where more than $12,000 was stolen. This time the robbery happened during a poker tournament at the Heidelberg fire hall and most likely over $1,000 was taken.
Police suspect that this robbery was an inside job. About twenty people were competing in a Texas hold’em poker tournament at the Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department. The space was rented out to host the poker tournament. Around 2:40 in the morning one player got up to leave. As he was leaving through a door that was locked, two men with guns entered the facility through the door the player was exiting.
A side door was then opened to allow a third man in who was carrying a Baton, according to Chief Vernon Barkley of the Heidelberg police. The men then asked for Sara Lazarro. Sara is the woman who regularly plans poker tournaments in the region. The men then demanded cash from the players and Sara was hit in the head with the baton.
Barkley says they are pretty sure it was an inside job and the player who allowed the gunmen to enter seemed very nervous to the other players throughout the night. The man was spending a good deal of time on his cell phone, which was most likely the way he contacting the gunmen.
Barkley stated the player has been contacted by the police and is going to be interviewed. The player’s name has yet to be released.
Online Poker Players Personal Details Available… For a Fee.
October 21, 2009
An investigative reporter today released a statement on a prominent Australian Gambling news site say’s he was actually able to aquire sensitive player information from sites like William Hill, 888, and .. Full Tilt Poker.
Nick Haslem of AustralianGambling.com.au reported that representatives of Australian Gambling were able to obtain a sample of player details.
Haslem went on to further explain that he contacted these online gambling companies, asking them their opinion on the legalities of this player betrayal, but has received no comment.
According to Australian Gambling, a man named Ryan Clegg purchases personal player data from the employees of online casinos, online poker rooms and virtual bingo halls.
There was no confirmation as to whether management at any of these rooms was aware of the sale of customer info.
The details that Clegg reportedly purchases every couple of weeks, to every month or two includes the full names of online poker players, their home addresses, birthdays, and of course, their email addresses.
Along with the above information, purchasers are also treated to the gambling habits of the players included. Things like deposit amounts, and frequency are listed, along with win and loss amounts.
The information is intended for use within the gambling industry as a way to spread spam for the most part it would seem, however, the imagine the value to a professional identity thief, or even someone looking to exploit a gambling addiction.
According to the insider report Clegg buys his information from a once industry insider, Frank Best. The two, according to Clegg, once ran a media agency together.
Clegg also wasn’t afraid to name drop plenty. Among the websites he says he’s buying information from are:
“Casino Tropez, Eurogrand, Casinojoy, 888, Intercasino, Spin Palace, 32 red, William Hill, Europa Casino, Vegas Red, PlatinumPlay, Roxy Palace"
Clegg went on to offer some sports better and poker websites mailing lists:
Ladbrokes, Betfair and ToteSport but also got William Hill and Coral for betting
As a part of the sales pitch, Clegg offered, and sent a sample to Australian Gambling that included the personal data of 50 online gamblers.
The data was delivered in an excel spreadsheet and included the following information:
1. Name – This included both first and last name
2. Address – Both number and street
3. City
4. Country
5. Email address
6. Telephone number
7. Net loss – The amount the player had won or lost at the casino
8. Deposits – The total of the player’s real money deposits
Those interested in further information will find an actual email from Clegg sent to Haslem on Australian Gambling, wherein Clegg attempts to close the deal.
In the latest batch of casino data we have roughly 40k full records available which include Full name, address, email, telephone number, net loss and total deposits of each player.
All the data is European and comes from various online casinos like Casino Tropez, Eurogrand, Casinojoy, 888, Intercasino, Spin Palace, 32 red, Will Hill, Europa, Vegas Red, Platinumplay and Roxy Palace.
We once asked at 4flush.com How much is your personal information worth? In our story regarding a 'leak' at Absolute Poker last year, that price was $500. It looks like that recession is really having it's effect...
We now have a new answer. According to Clegg 1000 records is worth $100. 40,000 records are available at the bargain rate of $4000.
There were some deals available for the bulk personal details shopper, and some bogo’s for the thrifty identity thief.

Dorrit Borensztajn, Director of Affiliate Marketing for Everest Gaming said, "As one of the first companies to support the Spanish gaming market there is a natural synergy between Everest Gaming and the iGB España and we are delighted to be so actively involved in the event. This initiative will pave the way for affiliates and operators alike to become really successful by getting together, exchanging ideas and understanding the potential this market has to offer."
The freeroll is going to be held online at Everest Poker on Thursday, November 5th. You have to be an attending affiliate so in order to play a password will be emailed to those in attendance but they will still need to register in order to play.
Season Two of UltimateBet.com’s Best Damn Poker Show Debuts in Europe October 20th
October 19, 2009
Leading online poker site UltimateBet.com hits the airwaves on the Poker Channel this month with second season of “Best Damn Poker Show,” a poker series featuring Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and 24 would-be poker champions.
UltimateBet.com today announced that Season Two of “Best Damn Poker Show” will debut in Europe on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on The Poker Channel Europe throughout the run of season, beginning October 20th, 2009 at 22:00 CET. The 7-episode series will be repeated on Thursdays and Saturdays at 16:00 CET on Europe’s largest dedicated gaming TV network, available online to a global audience and to more than 18 million cable and satellite homes in Europe.
The second season of “Best Damn Poker Show” aims to determine which poker legend --—Phil Hellmuth or Annie Duke—can better teach the game of Texas Hold’em, transforming ordinary poker players into champions capable of competing on the world stage.
Each episode includes player eliminations, so expect the pressure to escalate from week to week as the race to survive the cut builds to a dramatic finale. See Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth highlighting card play, analyzing the competition and commentating on eliminations. Extended versions of the intense showdowns between the two poker champions will be available exclusively online.
Tune in to see who emerges as the one to watch as the weeks roll on. Will the Moneymaker effect play out to perfection with the winner ‘freerolling’ right into the Champion’s seat? Don’t miss a beat as the episodes progress; bets are on to decide if Team Hellmuth or Team Duke will triumph come time for the show’s finale.
Much like the first season of Best Damn Poker Show, which aired in early 2008, online poker players at UltimateBet.net competed for a spot on the show by creating and submitting an audition video that highlighted why they deserved to be on the ultimate poker reality series. Many of the user-submitted videos can be seen on YouTube.
The online site also invited Texas Hold’em fans to take part in a series of qualifiers that paid out spots on the show. What’s more, a live audition process took place at the 2008 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The majority of the 24 poker hopefuls were cherry picked from the legion of on-camera interviews conducted here, where producers had access to the thousands of talented Texas Hold’em fans who were in town for the world’s most prestigious poker tournament.
