The Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival Publishes Full Schedule
July 29, 2009
The Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival Publishes Full Schedule
First Four Side Events Feature Guaranteed Prize Pools
Debuts for Ladies’ and Head-Up Events
The Asian Poker Tour, Asia’s original poker tour, is delighted to publish the full schedule for The Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival which will run from August 12–23, 2009 at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau.
Last year’s six day event has doubled in size and will be transformed into a record breaking 12 day extravaganza, creating Asia’s first festival of poker. The success of the Asian Poker Tour sponsored poker room at the Starworld Hotel and Casino has led organizers to lay out these ambitious plans that represent another huge leap forward for poker in the region. The Asian Poker Tour Macau will also be the backdrop to the filming of the first Chinese language poker film, ‘Poker King,’ starring A-list Chinese actors, actresses and pop stars. With such a high profile film being made, many believe it could have the same impact on the Asian region as 1998 Hollywood movie Rounders did on aspiring poker players in the western world.
The Asian Poker Tour Macau hosts over 21 events with 15 official side events - the first five taking place between the 12th – 16th August featuring guaranteed prize pools. These are the HK$2,500 welcome event that guarantees HK$100,000, an Asian Poker Tour Open re-buy and add-on event with a $1,150 entry fee that guarantees HK$50,000, a Greed event that costs HK$2,500 to enter but offers the chance for one player to scoop all the HK$100,000 guaranteed prize pool if they choose, and the Hong Kong Game Club HK$1,150 re-buy and add-on tournament that guarantees HK$150,000. This will be followed by a second HK$1,150 re-buy and add-on tournament and much more, all ahead of Day 1A of the Main Event which kicks off on the 20th August.
In addition, there will be other head-hunter, six-handed, eight-handed, invitational, and celebrity tournaments. There will also be a ladies’ tournament and heads-up event, both believed to be firsts for the region and an example of just how far the game has moved on in Asia in the last twelve months. Taking part in the head-hunter tournaments will be ‘The Poker Pack’, the top professionals who are ambassadors of the Asian Poker Tour on the world circuit, as well as other famous names such as Johnny Chan. The Poker Pack, who will also have prominent roles in the ‘Poker King’ movie, are made up of the awesome poker abilities of JC Tran, Nam Le, Steve Sung, David ‘Chino’ Rheem, Quinn Do and Kwang Soo Lee.
The comprehensive side event schedule also includes a HK$164,000 buy-in high rollers event with other side events having a buy-in as little as HK$1,000. Another highlight includes the ‘Battle of the Nations’ team event. This is a team No Limit Hold’em tournament featuring teams of three members from the same country. There will be two teams facing each other at each table, so the tables will be six-handed. The goal is to eliminate all the members of the other team. This will play down until there is one team left! Sponsors of the side events and marketing collaterals include the Hong Kong Game Club, DafaPoker, Dafa888, the Poker King Movie, JBET, PartyPoker, Bwin, 777baby Casino, Zipang Casino, and PKR.
The cards are in the air for the first of two day one’s of the Main Event on the 20th August, with the final table scheduled on the 23rd of August.
Matt Savage, the world’s leading Tournament Director overseeing the action said: “This is an ambitious tournament schedule and there is something for everybody within it, there’s no doubt it is player friendly. Macau’s poker scene is booming and some of the formats will certainly be firsts for the region. The guarantees are great and it is exciting to see the heads-up and ladies event on the schedule. What shouldn’t be forgotten as well though is that The Asian Poker Tour hosts the most legendary parties – the one in Macau even won awards last year!”
Chris Parker, CEO of the Asian Poker Tour said: “We’re delighted with this schedule - it really shows just how far the game has come in this part of the world. Our objective was to put player’s interests first in all scheduling as Macau will be a poker heaven in August!”
Amongst the online networks already committed to sending players are the Ongame Network, the iPoker Network and PartyPoker. In addition, online rooms Bwin, PKR, DafaPoker, JBET Poker, 888.com, Titan Poker, RedKings, Chilipoker, and 32Red are in on the action guaranteeing a significant online qualifier contingent. Last year, the event attracted some of the most famous names in the game including Doyle Brunson, Jack Binion, Johnny Chan, John Juanda, Huck Seed, Liz Lieu, Todd Brunson, Kenny Tran and ‘The Poker Pack.’ The 2008 Asian Poker Tour Macau Main Event was won by then 20-year-old US hotshot Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who scooped US$500,000 after emerging triumphant from the star-studded field that featured players from over 40 countries. Timoshenko has since gone on to win the WPT Championship and is currently one of the hottest prospects in the game.
The buy-in for the Main Event is set at HK$34,400, while high-limit games and sit-n-go tables will run throughout the duration of the festival. As well as the action on the felt, the play off the felt promises to be extremely lively too with The Asian Poker Tour looking to top the legendary and award winning party held in Macau last year. PokerStars Moves EPT Moscow Event to Ukraine
July 27, 2009
PokerStars was gearing up to go to Moscow, Russia to begin the sixth season of the European Poker Tour but the Russian government decided to close many of their casinos especially those close to the capital. EPT organizers had to scramble and figure out what to do with so many people ready to travel and many prize packages given out, they had to do something. So the EPT event has now moved from Moscow to Kiev, Ukraine which is not too far from the original destination.
Use PokerStars bonus code STARS600 to get your 100% matched deposit bonus up to $600 at Pokerstars
The Moscow event is now going to be called the EPT Kiev Sports Poker Championship and will take place at the Kiev Sports Palace in Kiev, Ukraine. This event is being held in partnership with the Ukrainian Poker Federation as well as under the regulation and authority of the Ukrainian Poker Federation. The event is still scheduled for August 18th through the 23rd and the event will have a 5,000 EUR buy-in.
Every player who qualified for the Moscow event can now come to the Ukraine to compete in the tournament. But if a player does not want to come to the Ukraine and they already have a prize package, PokerStars has given them the option to come to another EPT event instead or exchange their entry for cash.
PokerStars sent out a press release to explain the change. An excerpt read: “Euro Poker Tour Ltd. sincerely apologizes to all players who were intending to attend the Moscow event, but unfortunately these circumstances were beyond our control. Players are encouraged to consider attending the Ukrainian event instead, and to participate in the opening of the EPT's sixth season."
In my opinion PokerStars and the EPT organizers really did a great job with the sudden occurrence of the Russian Government to closing the casinos. They were given tough circumstances and rose to the challenge to give the players of PokerStars and those who were going to attend the event a chance to compete.

Pitbull Poker Cheating Update
July 26, 2009
Recently, another online poker room, PitBull Poker became suspect in the popular online poker forums known as 2+2, the allegation? Cheating users by allowing certain users to see other player’s hole cards, you might remember the Absolute Poker cheating debacle, whereas someone on the inside compromised gaming software, causing online poker players to lose millions of dollars do to cheating in online poker tournaments.
Well there’s been a small update in this investigation, spokesperson for Pitbull Poker, the online poker room currently under community scrutiny has come forward in the poker forums and made a statement.
I am here to clarify a few things for you:
- I am not related to the excellent Brenes brothers. In Costa Rica, Brenes is a relatively common last name.
- I am a real person, hired by Pitbull Gaming over a year ago to look after the network they were building and along the line I started to taking care of other tasks to eventually look after the forums with the idea of providing an additional support venue.
- The HH policy is what I know; I follow the policies and terms that the company has set. I am not making new policies out of thin air. We have never sent HHs like the ones requested and has always been the same policy (at least since I joined the company).
- I am not attempting to be deceitful with you guys or anyone, I was actually trying to be a mediator and resolve the conflict.
- As of today I am not posting anymore and you will have to deal ONLY with Customer Support if you want to keep asking for HHs or ask for payouts or whatever you can think of.
Good bye
Dave Brenes
Network Manager

Well we didn't say it was much of a statement. After all, the folks at Pitbull are very busy today, changing all of their footers, the ones that used to proclaim they were a UK Gambling company. Now the footers hail Cyprus. It seems the company picked up its skirts and headed for cyrpus.. last night. Hot damn they got that office open in lightening fast time.
Planet Hollywood Casino fined, bars lose liquor license.
July 26, 2009
A Las Vegas strip casino is losing night-clubs fast. In fact, you might say the nightclubs at Planet Hollywood in Vegas are dropping like bar flies!
Although Prive and the Living Room both located within Planet Hollywood are both still open right this minute. Both casino bars have lost their liquor licenses and will be shutting their doors by this time next week.
Allegations were made of some particularly shady behavior for a casino bar, such as half naked women, underage drinkers, and other ‘lewd behavior’. There was also a small issue of a security agent ‘stalling’ county officials during an inspection.
Planet Hollywood doesn’t own these clubs, but the clubs do reside within the casino, therefore the county says the management at Planet Hollywood should have kept things under control. Planet Hollywood spokespersons say that the casino will pay the fine.
Allegations of Cheating, Shadyness, and Outright Ickyness at Pitbull Poker
July 25, 2009
Today we bring you, gossip, allegations, unverified facts, and a bit of soap box politics. Have you ever wondered what sort of credentials must be attained to open and operate an online poker website? What background checks must be passed? Can any criminal open a multimillion dollar gambling operation?
Why, Sir yes sir any one with 8 bucks for Godaddy can open a website, it does take a lot more skill however to design poker software... Here's the thing about that. Even if the programmer thinks they have designed a fabulous product, secure online poker that's fun for everyone, what agency tests it for holes?
American’s continuously ask our government to come and protect us. We ask that you tax and profit, and regulate the online poker industry. What do we get? More ignorance, much like the new law in Washington Casinos that allows ‘all in betting’ … up to $500, making the max bet at a ‘no limit’ poker game, either $40, or All in for $500.
We get more laws, more infringements on our freedoms, and every day we get to watch our government screw us due to the lack of the line item veto. Just little things like, poker regulation mixed in with National Security bills, or gun laws tacked onto the back of credit card regulation legislation.
Meanwhile, we hear rumors and reports of companies out and out cheating Americans, rumors like the one we’ll outline below, of online poker rooms with shady software that allows super users to see the whole cards of other online poker players.
A new story is brewing on the popular poker forum 2+2 that involves Pitbull Poker.
Poker players have done some amazing research, as has become the norm in the online poker industry, ferreting out the crooks, and those that would cheat poker players out of millions of dollars.
The story begins like this…
In the year 2000, this is pre-September 11 here folks.. way way back when online poker was still relatively new and largely unheard of, a man named Federico Schiavio, an IT employee of Binions Casino bought a website name.
He went to someplace like godaddy.com and bought the domain. Meaning that he could someday put a website there. The name of the website was WSOP.com. There's a lot more to this part of this saga, it's all quite interesting, and covered in depth on this blog.
In or around the same time, it’s rumored the Schiavio began building online poker software, software is the world you visit when you loggin to a place like Pokerstars.com or Full Tilt Poker. They look different, they offer different features, etc.
Well come 2004, Harrahs isn’t to happy to find Schiavio encroaching on their brand. As a result, in March of 2004 Harrahs begins legal action against Schiavio for the WSOP.com domain.
In April of 2004, some other interesting activity is going on. A company named Dimensus Ltd is put together as the parent company of an up an coming online poker room, Pitbull Poker. (pitbullpoker.com).
Shortly thereafter, an arrangement is apparently made between Shiavio and involving his website WSOP.com and Pitbullpoker.com.
It’s rumored that the guys at Pitbull Poker even used Shiavio’s software, remember, the software he was alledgedly creating back in 2000 or so.
Enter Kevin Baronowsky: according to the online poker sleuths at 2+2 Baronowsky owns a few websites of his own. There's pherx.com website that sells pherehormone's and a couple typo domains, such as pitbullpokr.com and xardplayer.com. Both of the two typo websites redirect to pitbullpoker.com (meaning if you go to xardplayer.com your computer will automatically take you to pitbullpoker.com).
Now let’s look as the online poker players at 2+2 have, at an Internet screen name, dsscanuck, a user name used online at a forum that talks about receiving satellite television illegally.
There’s a person on THAT forum that shares with the community that he was busted for selling illegal satellite equipment, he turned state and provided evidence about his clients to the government to save his own skin.
If you check out dsscanuck.com you’ll be greeted by banners for … pherx.com as well as eczemaderm.com. So what’s eczemaderm.com? eczemaderm.com is a
website that sells steroid cream. What’s steroid have to do with this particular conspiracy theory? Absolutely nothing. However, eczemaderm.com is hosted on the very same servers as pherx.com and none other than.. WSOP.com.
Now in addition to all of this fascinating information… there has been online poker cheating allegations made against Pitbull Poker, same old story... super users with the ability to see hole cards.
Players have also allegedly asked Pitbull Poker for hand histories, delivered in a format that they could use. The online poker website allegedly refused to deliver.
In fact, as of today, you just flat out cannot have an online hand history. So no one's saying there ARE superusers, nothings been proven, but some people might be saying that Pitbull is making it awfully difficult to prove or disprove their existence.
Makes you want to complain to the owner doesn’t it? Ask him what’s going on?! Is your money really safe at this online poker room? Well, that’s what we’re here for... to provide you with ownership information. . .
The parent company of Pitbull Poker was apparently dissolved on March 10th of 2009. So, as far as we, and the folks at 2+2 can discern, there is no owner! A poster on 2+2 “PBDave” says that the ownership was transferred to a company based in Cyprus, no records have been produced to support this claim.
Dimensus, the former parent company never actually had a gambling license (Semantics right?!?) however, the company claims to be in Costa Rica, where they actually wouldn’t need one.
Costa Rica? Wait, Pitbull claims to be a UK Company.
The UK Gaming commission has been informed of the possibility of an illegal gambling business.

Success of National Poker Week Activities in D.C.
July 23, 2009
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), reported on the success of National Poker Week activities this week in Washington, D.C. More than 50 representatives of the PPA, including 33 state directors, traveled to Washington, D.C. to directly deliver the message to lawmakers that poker is not a crime, and asked them to support licensing and regulation legislation that will protect the online game enjoyed by more than 10 million Americans.
“From the more than 100 meetings with members and staff to the charity tournament that raised $35,000 for our wounded warriors, I’d say National Poker Week was a rousing success,” PPA Chairman and Former Senator Alfonse D’Amato said. “Congress is preparing for hearings this fall on the licensing and regulation of the game we love, so I urge all PPA members to continue this activism and enthusiasm so our elected officials can take their marching orders and fight to protect our game.”
D’Amato kicked off National Poker Week with an in-studio appearance on the Howard Stern Show, where he signed Howard up as a member of the PPA. Highlights of the National Poker Week D.C. activities include:
- Attendance by 33 State Directors and 7 professional poker players, including – Andy Bloch, Annie Duke, Jan Fisher, Linda Johnson, Howard Lederer, Dennis Phillips, and Greg Raymer.
More than 100 Congressional meetings.
30 wounded soldiers and 10 members of Congress participating in the charity poker tournament.
$35,000 in PPA and individual contributions benefiting the USO Metro and their wounded warriors program.
70 Hill staffers and interested parties attending the PPA Congressional briefing.
375,769 signatures on the petition to President Obama calling for the licensing and regulation of online poker.
Nearly 200,000 letters/emails sent to U.S Representatives and Senators since July 20th.
In addition to the flurry of activities, the PPA launched an advertising campaign, both online and in print, targeted to opinion leaders and policymakers in D.C. and calling on them to protect the game of poker. The three print ads highlight the stories of real PPA members who play online – both as a pastime and for a living - and directly ask Congress to protect their right to play. The online ads, which can be seen here, tell Congress to “take the politics out of poker” and direct viewers to the National Poker Week site highlighting the need to support licensing and regulation.
Professional poker player Andy Bloch, who participated in numerous meetings with members of Congress and their staff, said “every single meeting and every method of communication counts. Even if you’re cynical about the political process, you’ll be encouraged to know that these members, whether they agree yet or not, are listening to our arguments and are truly surprised to know just how popular poker is in their hometowns. I truly feel we are winning on this issue, and the time is ripe for pro-poker legislation to pass into law.”
PPA also hosted a charity poker tournament and presented a $25,000 check to the USO-Metro benefiting the Malone House at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Wounded servicemen and women played alongside poker pros, PPA’s State Directors, members of Congress, and their staff, with all $10,000 of the re-buys going “all-in” to the USO. Winners of the tournament received prizes contributed by Harrah’s, AirTran, JAQK Cellars, Washington Capitals, and WSOP Academy.
Earlier in the week, PPA pulled together online security experts for a Congressional staff briefing on how Internet poker can be effectively regulated in the United States. The panelists included Dr. Parry Aftab, Executive Director of Wired Safety, Stuart Dross, Vice President of Cigital, and Paul Mathews, former executive with International Game Technology. The panelists corrected many of the misperceptions of online poker and discussed with congressional staff the effective and available solutions to properly regulate online games.
To make National Poker Week possible, PPA partnered with a variety of organizations including PokerPages.com, PokerListings.com, ConJelCo, PokerTube, Heartland Poker Tour, PocketFives.com, Bluff Magazine, Poker News, and Poker Road.

Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle Could Be Heading for Reality Television
July 21, 2009
A few poker players have made an appearance on television and movies over the past few years and it seems as though poker pros Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho will be next to appear on the television screen.
Information has been gathered from a number of sources and it appears that Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho will be appearing in the upcoming season of the CBS hit The Amazing Race. Sources near the CBS camp have confirmed that two female poker pros will create a team on the upcoming season of The Amazing Race although they have released the identities of the two ladies.
Bluff Magazine reported information from RealityFanForum that suggests the two poker pros are going to be on the television show. A poster on the forum website took photos of contestants as the race began and one of the photos clearly shows Maria Ho. Rumors have surfaced that Tiffany Michelle is her partner because of what she stated on her blog recently.
Michelle decided to not participate in the World Series of Poker Main Event and she commented on her blog: “It’d have to be something pretty big to deter me from the WSOP Championship Event this year and trust me, IT IS! I can’t disclose much right now but I’ll be leaving to film a project for a month and it conflicts with the Main Event. … This project and my part are very huge and it’s an opportunity is just too good to pass up. At the end of the day, acting and performing have always been my passion, in fact its how I fell into poker to begin with and I never want to lose sight of that part of my life and career.”
Filming began on July 12th in Los Angeles for The Amazing Race and the Race began on the 15th. More information was found on Michelle’s Twitter from July 13th that stated she was filming a project so all signs point to the two being on the show but nothing has been confirmed.
