Paddy Power Poker Offering Players Chance to Live Like a Pro

May 28, 2009

Many poker players and fans dream of one day living the life of a poker pro. How wonderful would it be to be able to live the high life of a poker pro? Playing in the high stakes games, driving the fast cars and living it up in Vegas, sounds pretty awesome to me! Paddy Power Poker recently announced a new promotion that will deliver just that: a chance for a lucky player to live like a poker pro.

The new promotion is called the Paddy Power Poker Pro and will offer players at all skill levels the chance to live the life of a poker pro. Paddy Power Poker has partnered with Bluff Europe, the poker publication, to find the next big poker professional.

Michael Caselli the Editor-in-Chief of Bluff Europe commented on the search stating: “There is nothing better in the world of poker than to be one of its stars. This promotion will transform an ordinary player into an extra-ordinary poker pro, which is really thrilling!”

There is over 100,000 Euros in packages to be one by Paddy Power Poker players on all levels but the top prize is the 60,000 Euros package, $85,000USD. The player that wins this package will be able to compete in many of Europe’s largest poker tournaments over the next year.

Players must have a General status in the VIP program at Paddy Power Poker as of the first of October 2009 to earn a spot in the exclusive online final. The outcome of the final will determine the eight players who will compete in the Live Grand Final for the top prize package. The 60,000 Euro first place prize will be awarded as 30,000 Euros cash and 30,000 Euros in tournament buy-ins.

PartyPoker Wants to See Mike Sexton Inducted into Poker Hall of Fame

May 27, 2009

Yesterday we brought you the news that poker fans can now take part in nominating players to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame for 2009. The voting is currently open and will continue until July 2nd. Anyone can nominate their favorite player and one online poker room would like to see a specific poker pro inducted this year.

PartyPoker has begun lobbying for Mike Sexton, an ambassador for PartyPoker as well as the host of the World Poker Tour. PartyPoker would like to see Sexton added to the list of those to be considered for induction to the Poker Hall of Fame.

Sexton has a good chance of being placed on the list as he meets the requirements needed to be added to the induction list. He recently finished hosting the seventh season of the World Poker Tour which he has been with since the very first season. He also has a WSOP bracelet and is in the top ten players who have earned the most cashes during the World Series of Poker.

PartyPoker recently re-signed Sexton to their site and he is now the ambassador for the online poker room.  The fourth largest online poker room would love to see their ambassador added to the list of poker pros that have been added to the Hall of Fame.

A spokesman for PartyPoker reiterated that they would like to see the poker community vote for Sexton. The spokesman stated: “We encourage the poker community to vote online for Mike Sexton’s induction into poker’s hall of fame. Mike famously said that poker takes five minutes to learn and a lifetime to master- it takes five minutes to vote and mark the lifetime achievement of the master! Mike meets all the criteria and deserves to be top of the list when the process gets to the Hall of Fame committee.”

It will be interesting to see if many poker fans and players vote for Sexton as well as how many other poker pros and those in the industry are nominated. We may also see other poker rooms get behind their players and nominating them for induction.

Public Get First Chance to Vote for WSOP Hall of Fame Inductees

May 26, 2009

Nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame begin today and for the first time ever the public will be able to participate in the nomination process. Poker fans have from now until July 2nd to nominate a poker player for the list of possible inductees to the Hall of Fame.

Poker fans can visit the World Series of Poker website and vote for their favorite player. A submission can be made for one player and up to two hundred and fifty words can be used by the nominator to explain why they believe that player deserves to be in the Poker Hall of Fame.

Nominators do need to remember that there are certain criteria that must be reached before a player can be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The player must have played poker against acknowledge top competition, have stood the test of time and still have the ability to gain the respect of their peers. The player must also have played for high stakes.

Poker players are not the only nominations that can be made to be inducted. People who have contributed to the growth and success of poker with “indelible positive and lasting results” can also be nominated.

After the nominations have closed the committee of the Hall of Fame will review the nominations made by the public and decide if any others in the poker industry should be listed for possible induction. This will occur in August.

In September the final list of nominees will be sent to the sixteen living current members of the Hall of Fame. Those members will then rank the nominees in the order they believe they should be listed and only those who they believe should be inducted.

A small group of media members will also be sent a list to rank the finalists for induction. The Hall of Fame will then receive the list and create the final list. A nominee must earn at least 75% or more of the votes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place during the final table at the WSOP Main Event in November.

Full Tilt Poker picks up the FTOPS tab again! $200k Overlay

May 21, 2009

It happened again, this time it was the Full Tilt Poker Series Main Event that undersold. Not to worry though, FTOPS again picked up the tab when only 4,581 players entered to play the online poker series main event with a guaranteed prize pool of 2.5 million dollars. Full Tilt picked up the tab on the 200k deficit, leaving 400 buyins unprotected.

Play Online Poker

As we pointed out the last time this happened, during the FTOPS event 22, that’s just like having 400 people go out of the tournament before you even buy in!

So why are these tournaments underselling? We know it’s not the smoking ban that’s plaguing so many casinos right now in the real world… that’s the glory of online poker isn’t it. It’s possible that the economy and the recession and all that could have kept a few players out of the game.. and there’s also the nearly simultaneous MiniFTOPS those could be the cause of Big Daddy Tilt footing the bill, however, with the much smaller buy-in, and the considerably smaller guarantee, these two tournaments should be drawing different crowds.

When the last chips hilt the felt, PocketOwnage420 was crowned the victor, beating out azzabenonaces in the heads up match.

For his trouble, PocketOwnage420 took home a nice n tidy pot, filled with 432,400 $1 poker chips. TesT_Tickler (loving these two names!) took home the miniFTOPS title, bagging $92,868 for his $55 poker tournament entry. Well, on second thought, that’s surely not a bad return on his investment.

Jean Gaspard Wins WSOP Circuit Championship in New Orleans

May 21, 2009

Yesterday afternoon final table play began at the Bayou Poker Challenge WSOP Circuit Championship with Jean Gaspard in the chip lead. Gaspard would dominate the tournament and take his skills to the final table where he would take home the first place prize.

The first player to leave the final table would be knocked out by Gaspard. Kurt Scheer went out in ninth place when he went had a nut flush on the turn but Gaspard got a full house on the river. Kenny Milam was next to go when he went all in with a low Ace and was called by Billy Kopp who held pocket kings.

Gaspard knocked out the next player, Justin Allen, in seventh place and Anita Vasquez, the last woman in the event, was eliminated in sixth place. Dan Walsh would go out in fifth after going up against Ken Christopher with pocket tens, only to find that Christopher held pocket Aces. Christopher took out the next player, Steven McKoy in fourth place.

With McKoy gone, it left Gaspard, Kopp and Christopher in three handed play. The three decided to chop the pot and after deliberating for some time a deal was struck. Gaspard would earn the first place win which came with a gold ring, $10,000 entry into the WSOP Main Event plus $1,000 for expenses.

Final Payouts:

1. Jean Gaspard -- $161,175*
2. Billy Kopp -- $123,837*
3. Ken Christopher -- $111,097*
4. Steven McKoy -- $63,916
5. Daniel Walsh -- $49,934
6. Anita Vasquez -- $39,948
7. Justin Allen -- $31,958
8. Kenny Milam -- $25,966

9. Kurt Scheer -- $21,971

FTOPS 22 Overlays $125,000.

May 20, 2009

Full Tilt Poker players were treated to an exciting and largely profitable online poker matchup when Event 22 of the Full Tilt Series of Poker (Also known as the FTSOP) kicked off as an overlay.

Full Tilt offered guaranteed prize pool of $2 Million USD, however, there weren’t enough registrants to cover the guarantee. Not to worry though, Full Tilt covered the gap, laying out $125,000 for the prize pool.

Play Online Poker

That means players got a heckuva good deal. They got to play for the entire prize pool, but they didn’t have to face as many other players. In fact, it cost players $2500 to buy into the game (after the fee) so it was as if they’d all bought their tickets, took their seats, and then 50 people got up and walked out, deciding not to protect their stake in the tournament.

FTR covered the story, reporting that TravestyFund took down the prize. Outlasting the other players, and taking home $460,000 for his efforts.

Dream Team Poker Event Added to 2009 WSOP

May 20, 2009

Dream Team Poker has only been around for a short time but in the time period the poker tournament series has become very popular. So much so that the World Series of Poker has taken notice and this year the WSOP will add a Dream Team event to their schedule.

The Dream Team will not be a bracelet event but it will be a different type of event for players to enter. The tournament will take place on July 12th and 13th at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino with a buy-in of $560 per player or $1,680 per team.

Jeffrey Pollack the WSOP commissioner commented on the addition of the Dream Team Poker event to the WSOP stating: “After seeing the terrific response to the recent Dream Team Poker tournaments in Las Vegas, we thought a team-based event would be a fun addition to the end of the WSOP. The Dream Team Poker event is one of the many new elements added in 2009 that will help make this summer a memorable one for all WSOP players and fans.”

Those who would like to compete on a team should go ahead and get their players together. The first three hundred teams who sign up on the Dream Team Poker website will receive personalized jerseys for their team to wear at the tournament.

Players who compete in a Dream Team Event are playing for individual prizes as well as Team prizes. So even if you do well but your team does not you could still earn a prize and vice versa.

Step up your Poker Game with Absolute Poker’s STEP Tournaments

May 19, 2009

Absolute Poker is one of the online poker rooms that offer their players STEP tournaments which are a way for players to earn seats to major land based tournaments like the 2009 WSOP. The special aspect of STEP tournaments is the fact that they begin with a low buy-in so players can begin competing for a low amount of cash. Absolute Poker offers STEP tournaments beginning at just ten cents, which anyone can afford.

Win Your Way into the WSOP with Absolute Poker's Step Tournaments!

Absolute Poker’s STEP tournaments have ten steps with the final step offering the seat to the land based event. Players can begin on the first step for just ten cents and then work their way up the ten steps to the final. Players must finish the first step before moving on the next and so on.

Play online poker with thousands of real people for FREEThe STEP tournaments are a type of Sit-n-Go tournament and each tournament consists of ten STEPS, which equals ten individual Sit-n-Go tournaments. As each STEP tournament advances the buy-ins increase.

Each STEP tournament sees the first two winners advancing to the next step without having to pay the buy-in.  For example, a WSOP hopefull buys into the first Step, and  the first two winners of the STEP 1 then move on to STEP 2 without having to pay the buy-in and the first two winners of STEP 2 move on to STEP 3 and so on.
Now here's where it gets interesting. The third and fourth place finishers of STEP 1 get back into STEP 1 for free. So as long as you can finish in the top four, you don't lose.

Once you get to STEP 2,  which you can buy into directly for .30 (thirty cents), you can either win your way to STEP 3 by finishing in first or second, or retry STEP 2 again by finishing in third, or if your game is a little lax, or you suffer a bad beat, you can win your way back to STEP 1 by winning fourth place. At the very least, you win a nickle (Half up on your next STEP 1) by placing in fifth place.

This advancement will continue until players reach STEP 10 and the winner earns the seat to the land based tournament that Absolute Poker is offering, right now that tournament is of course the World Series of Poker. Another great aspect of the STEP tournaments is that if you do not make it to the next STEP but you still finish high you will be given the option to replay the STEP instead of having to start over or move down a STEP.

Alternatively, players can opt to take another path during STEP 7 and win their way into a Multi Table tournament with 50 guarenteed WSOP seats on offer.

To begin playing in the Absolute Poker STEPS Tournaments players need to log on to their account at Absolute Poker and clicking on the STEPS Tournament Tab. With such a small buy-in this is a great way to try and earn a seat to a major land event without having to hurt your bank roll. With just a ten dollar deposit you could enter several STEPS tournaments at the ten cent level or move up to the fifty cent level or an even higher level. Its amazing how far just ten dollars will get you at Absolute Poker when you play the STEPS tournaments.

Pocketownage420 Wins FTOPS XII Main Event

May 18, 2009

The twelfth edition of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series has come to an end and saw several top pros earning wins, while the number of players competing came up short in several events which caused overlays. The last event of the series was the Main Event and it was online player Pocketownage420 who came up with the $432,400 first place win.

The Main Event saw 4,581 players competing which did not quite meet the guarantee of $2.5 million. Because of the overlay, Full Tilt had to put up over $200K just to meet the guarantee. Jennifer Harmon hosted the event which had a buy-in of $500 plus $35.

When it came down to heads up play Pocketownage420 had to face azzabentonaces. The difference between first place and second place was almost $200,000 so both fought hard to earn the top prize. But it would be Pocketownage who would come up with the first place win.

Final Results:

Pocketownage420                                           $432,400.00

Azzabentonaces                                               $262,500.00

RonFezBuddy                                                    $57,500.00

baDONKaDONK88                                           $43,750.00

oiltrader                                                               $32,500.00

Even though Pokectownage420 earned a nice pay day it was not the largest of the FTOPS XII series. The $2,500 two-day no limit hold’em tournament began on Saturday with a field of 795 players and a $2 million prize pool. Patrik Antonius hosted the event and Travis “TravestyFund” Rice was able to outlast the field and take the first place win of $460,000.

The leading online poker site is gearing up to hand out at least 50 Main Event seats in their World Series of Poker (“WSOP”) *50 Package Satellite, a $530 buy-in event scheduled for June 21st at 17:30ET.

UltimateBet’s WSOP *50 Package Satellite is guaranteed to qualify at least 50 online players for the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em poker extravaganza, to be run and won at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. It doesn’t matter whether a player finishes 1st or 50th in the online poker site’s June 21st big seat giveaway , they’ll win a $12,000 prize package to the WSOP* Main Event.

If that’s not reason enough to pop the champagne corks, the eleven-time World Championship titleholder also celebrates the 20th Anniversary of his very first bracelet win at the 1989 WSOP*, where as a brash 24 year-old, he created a record that stood unbroken for 19 years as the youngest person ever to win the World Series of Poker Main Event.

"The World Series of Poker is the ultimate stuff of legends, and at UB, we’re on a crusade to make poker’s Holy Grail, the Main Event, our own. I’ll be bringing my best game to the table, and looking to add another piece of WSOP ‘bling’ to my résumé,” said UltimateBet Pro player Phil Hellmuth. “2009 is a huge year for me and for UB, and with dual Anniversaries to be buzzed about, I’m itching to hit Vegas and get this party started!"

To qualify for UB’s WSOP* 50 Package Satellite, players can either buy-in directly for $530, or choose to enter and win a Step 7A tournament that awards a player with an automatic entry into the June 21st mega-seat satellite event.
