Computer Glitch Defers Kentucky Online Gambling Domain Ruling To Thursday, Oct. 16
October 16, 2008
The future of 141 online gambling domains was left in the hands of Franklin Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wingate yesterday, but late in the day, the word came down from the judge’s office that the ruling would have to wait until Thursday, October 16th, due to a computer glitch.
The crucial decision will determine the fate of 141 online gambling domains that were originally ordered to be seized on September 18, 2008. These online gambling domains, which include some of the world’s largest online poker rooms – PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, UltimateBet, Bodog Poker, Cake Poker and others – were deemed to be in connection with illegal online gambling within the borders of Kentucky.
At the request of Kentucky’s governor, Steve Beshear, the case was originally heard by Judge Wingate without defense representation or rebuttal of any kind. When a team of defense attorneys requested time to submit a brief, the judge temporarily over-ruled his own decision to allow the Commonwealth of Kentucky to seize the online gambling domain names.
Wingate then stated that he would need time to reconsider his decision, and would hand down his final ruling on October 15th - that was yesterday. The anticipation grew from all interested parties, but alas, no ruling came down. Instead, a fax came from the office of Christine Richards, Secretary to Judge Thomas Wingate, stating simply: “Computer problems. Order will be issued tomorrow.”
Can Bodog Poker Afford To Pay For WSOPE Main Event Seats?
September 15, 2008
Last weekend, Bodog Poker made the headlines for awarding two fortunate online poker players prize packages of $24,000 each, including seats in the upcoming World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE). However, considering the current financial situation at Bodog, some are speculating as to the accurate pay out of such rewards.
The problems with Bodog Poker first began in early summer when it was announced by Forbes.com that several of the online gaming company’s bank accounts had been seized by the United States Government. Online payment processors immediately started backing off from their business interactions with Bodog Poker for fear of the company’s potential inability to pay their customers.
As it turns out, those online payment processors may have been correct in alienating Bodog Poker as numerous customers have reported rubber checks from Bodog. Further attesting to the financial insecurities at Bodog Poker, just last month the online gaming company laid off 200 employees.
According to Gambling911.com, one Bodog Affiliate complained “This is the third check they bounced with me. I need to yank them down off the site.”
Not all is lost for members of Bodog Poker – at least not on the European side of the market, where regional Bodog Poker affiliates are not expected to experience the bounced check issues that plague US affiliates. In the same token, Bodog Poker doesn’t carry nearly the weight in Europe, where it maintains a significantly low market margin at this time.
Bodog Poker Open II; Main Event October 5th
August 26, 2008
In March 2008, Bodog Poker launched the very first Bodog Poker Open, a 6-event series that proved highly lucrative for Main Event winner “phatcat”. Now, as September draws near, Bodog Poker has finally announced a date for the Bodog Poker Open II Main Event, schedule for Sunday, October 5th at 4:00 pm ET.
The online poker room has yet to release a full schedule of events for the second installment of the Bodog Poker Open, but an announcement is anticipated within the week. However, even without a full schedule yet available, Bodog Poker has begun hosting Satellite competition to the Bodog Poker Open II Main Event. These Satellites can be found in the Bodog Poker lobby under ‘Scheduled Tournaments’, then ‘BPO’.
Direct buy-in to the BPO II Main Event is $470+$30, and registration is already open with unlimited seats available. Daily Satellites to the BPO II Main Event can be entered for as little as 50 Points or $5+$.50.
Earlier this year, Bodog Poker hosted its inaugural Bodog Poker Open, attracting a field of 596 players in the Main Event, establishing a prize pool of $305,120 after Bodog Poker threw another $25k-cherry on top. There were a lot of familiar names taking on the first BPO Main Event challenge, but heads-up play came down to “phatcat” and “_TheFinisher_”.
Now a historic landmark name at Bodog Poker, “phatcat” went on to win the first Bodog Poker Open Main Event, pocketing $76,280 for his clearly exuberant poker skills. For this exceptional victory, Bodog Poker also awarded phatcat with a commemorative Omega Speed Master watch, valued at more than $4k.
4Flush will provide the full BPO II tournament schedule as soon as it becomes available. Until then, mark your calendars for Sunday, October 5th as the Bodog Poker Open II Main Event kicks off at 4pm ET.
Bodog Poker Client Updates To Resizable Tables At Last
August 6, 2008
One of the most frequently requested updates to the Bodog Poker client by the online poker room’s many members has been a request for the addition of resizable poker tables. At last, after rigorous renovations and lengthy beta testing, players at Bodog Poker have finally been given their wish.
The recent update to the Bodog Poker software comes with a complete list of added customization abilities. The option to resize windows was of course added, along with the ability to detach chat windows and all game details.
The new resizable windows allow the player to increase or decrease the window to any size, limited only by the width and resolution of their monitor. Detachable features include the player chat, notes, stats, profiles and game/tournament information. This long-sought capability gives players the option to enjoy their online poker experience with as little clutter as possible.
The release of this new software update couldn’t have come at a better time as Bodog Poker is just getting ready to kick off its most lucrative guaranteed tournament in the history of the online poker room – a $250,000 GTD scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 10th. The new $250k GP will be replacing Bodog Poker’s original weekly $100k GP.
“Bodog is fully committed to offering our online poker players the most secure and enjoyable online gaming experience possible,” avowed CEO Alwyn Morris of the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, “and our new release delivers just this, giving players total control over how they enjoy the game. Bodog Poker players have been a part of the process from the beginning, and we’re excited to deliver the features they’ve asked for, like resizable game play windows and detachable chat windows. Players can look forward to even more features added in the very near future.
Just last November, Bodog Poker overhauled the software to present a new, more lustrous design with sleeker graphics and a much appreciated ‘spotlight’ that lightly glows over the player who’s up for action.
Bodog Poker has been continuously updating its poker client with perks like these for the past several months, giving players a steadily more enjoyable online poker experience while reassuring them that Bodog Poker is certainly listening and responding to their requests.
2008 WSOPE Qualifiers At Bodog Poker
August 5, 2008
Bodog Poker has announced it is now hosting 2008 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Qualifiers every day at the online poker room. The 2008 WSOPE Semifinals, scheduled for September 7th at Bodog Poker, guarantees at least 2 seats in the WSOP Europe Main Event.
Bodog Poker’s 2008 WSOPE Main Event prize package is worth $24,000 – about $20,000 to cover the buy-in (£10,000), plus round-trip airfare, stylish travel to and from the airport, luxury hotel accommodations, Team Bodog player gear and spending cash.
WSOPE Qualifiers have already begun at Bodog Poker, running daily for as little as $1 to enter. All qualifiers will send their respective winners on a trek towards the WSOPE Semi-final, where at least two players will be awarded the 2008 WSOPE Main Event prize package.
The 2008 WSOPE Main Event, No Limit Texas Hold’em, will run for 6 days, September 27th – October 2nd, at London Clubs International in London, England.
Last year, Bodog Poker sent Matt McCullough to the inaugural WSOP Europe Main Event via online qualifier competitions, and he made history by becoming the last remaining American player in the event. McCullough survived a field of 623 participants to finish in 3rd place, earning $766,674.
CEO of Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, Alwyn Morris shared his enthusiasm, “We’re excited to award our online qualifiers a prize package that allows them to live it up in London like they’ve already struck it rich, even before the first cards are dealt. We had an incredible run at last year’s tournament with one of our online qualifiers, Matt McCullough, finishing third, and we’re hoping to see Bodog back at the final table again—this time taking home the bracelet.”
