The 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event had a buy-in of €5,300 with €7 million in guaranteed prize money. The event would take place in No Limit Hold’em format and for players who could not fork up the massive amount of buy-in, there were satellites available. Sebastian Sorensson was one such player who earned his seat to the event via satellite, paying only €215 to compete. The semi-pro ended up making it to the final table, outlasting the field of 1,682 entries to claim the title win.

Surprisingly, this was only the second time that Sorensson had competed in a live poker tournament. What an event to compete in as he is now the tournament championship for the first ever PSC Barcelona Main Event and earned €9867,043 in the process, just over $1.1 million USD!

The final day of play would see six players take to the felt with Raffaele Sorrentino as the chip leader. Sorensson would be the second shortest chip stack as the day began. However, he would be able to build his stack early on which helped him secure a spot in the final two.

Once the event was down to the final three, Lachezar Petkov, Sorensson and Sorrentino; a deal was made. The three players decided to take payouts based on chip stack and then left €100,000 to compete for and the title. Petkov would automatically earn €917,347, Sorensson taking €887,043 and Sorrentino earning €850,110.

Sorensson would eliminate Sorrentino in third soon after the deal was made which gave the pro a nice 4 to 1 chip lead going into heads up play with Petkov. Petkov was actually able to gain the chip lead at one point but Sorensson fought back and the final hand would take place when he had a 3 to 2 chip lead.

Petkov would decide to move all-in from the button and Sorensson would call. Sorensson showed A-K off-suit with Petkov holding K-9 offsuit. The flop showed A-3-2 which gave Sorensson the lead. The Jack on the turn helped give Sorensson the win and the 10 on the river ended the hand and gave Sorensson the title win and the remaining prize money.
