For a few months now, discussions have been taking place in regards to an NFL stadium being constructed in Las Vegas. Sheldon Adelson is on board for addition of a stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, even proposing putting up a ton of cash to get the ball rolling. Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis is agreeable to moving from Oakland to Sin City and a new report suggests that an NFL stadium in the area would bring in a large number of new tourists.
Applied Analysis is an economic analytics firm based in Las Vegas who recently conducted a study on the NFL Stadium plans and found that as many as 451,417 incremental visitors would visit Las Vegas if the $1.9 billion domed stadium were to be created. Plans have the stadium offering 65,000 seats and being quite popular with those who might not normally visit the city of Las Vegas.
Applied Analysis believes that these same visitors would also enjoy the standard entertainment options of the city including gaming, drinks, dining, shopping and of course stay at local hotels. This would mean that Las Vegas would see an additional economic output, which could be as much as $620 million each year. Clark County would be able to earn an additional $22.5 million in tax dollars thanks to those who visit the area for the new stadium.
The plan to bring an NFL franchise to the Las Vegas Strip is supported by many groups including sports fans. However, there are those who are opposed. Chris Giunchigliani is the Commissioner of Clark County who has been vocal about his opposition to the plan, worried about traffic congestion as well as football fans taking up all the hotel rooms during the weekends. The Commissioner is also worried such individuals will not be gambling.
It is believed that Raiders fans will spend around $1,000 attending games in Las Vegas if the stadium is created and the team moves to Sin City, based on findings of the study. The venue can also be used for other events such as NCAA games, concerts and additional sports which would bring in more visitors and revenues to the city.
Davis is ready to move the Raiders to Las Vegas but there are many factors that must come together before the team can actually move. The findings by Applied Analysis does give weight to the plans for an NFL stadium but there is still much work to be done before the gambling city has the opportunity to become home to an NFL franchise.
