Murder Suicide at Excalibur Friday Night

Excalibur was the scene of an apparent murder suicide Friday night.  A shooting in the front desk area of Excalibur was reported to Las Vegas Metro Police around 8:30pm.  Reports from witnesses state that a man walked up to a concierge desk in the front desk area and shot a female sitting at the desk.  He then turned the gun on himself.  Witnesses stated that the shooter walked up immediately to the woman and shot her and did not threaten any of the other tourists or employees in the front desk area that was busy with Friday night hotel guests checking in for the weekend.

When police arrived the female employee was alive and taken to University Medical Center.  She later died of her injuries.  The alleged shooter died of a self inflicted gun shot wound.

The main entrance and the front desk area are both closed at this time.  Visitors are being directed to the rear entrance of the property for access.  The incident also disrupted the casino floor temporarily but has since reopened to normal business.

The female victim was an outside contractor that was working as a concierge or similar position at Excalibur through an outside vendor.  Some front desk services had been outsourced during peak times since layoffs hit the hotel in October.

Excalibur released the following statement through Twitter.  “An isolated incident has occurred at Excalibur this evening, local authorities have the matter under control.”

Excalibur is located on the southwest corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip.  MGM Resorts is the parent company of Excalibur.
