Hurricane Isaac Causes Coastline Casinos to Close

Hurricane Isaac is a threat to many United States citizens as it is approaching the coast line and many casinos in the path of the storm are closing their doors. As many as eighteen casinos on the coast of Louisiana and Mississippi will be closing their doors as Hurricane Isaac approaches. The casinos will be closing their doors to not only keep patrons and employees safe but to batten down the hatches as the storm approaches.

All twelve Gulf Coast casinos of the Mississippi Gaming Commission have been ordered to close as of today by 4:00pm EST and six casinos in Louisiana have been ordered to close as well. The L’Auberge Casino and Hotel located in Baton Rouge was scheduled to open tomorrow but Pinnacle Entertainment, the owner, has decided to push the soft opening to a later time. The new casino overlooks the Mississippi river and will in the path of the storm.

Just like residents in the area, the casinos must prepare for the worst. Hurricane Isaac is expected to hit land in Louisiana early Wednesday and forecasters are reporting that the hurricane will be slow moving. The coast will be subject to heavy rainfall till at least Thursday.

The hurricane is a category one and has winds up to 80mph. the winds have created a surge that will cause flooding as deep as two feet above ground level at high tide. The casinos are expecting to lose financially as a result of the storm; however the closing time of the casinos should be just a couple of days. But many residents and tourists may take a break from gambling for awhile to take care of their own homes if major damage is incurred. The casinos may be busy themselves taking care of any repairs that are needed after the storm passes through.
