Gambling Age Under Consideration and Poker Room Set to Shut Down in Nevada

Changes are taking place in the state of Nevada in regards to the gambling industry with a new gambling age having been proposed and a poker room closing its doors. The state has seen significant change over the past few years in regards to gaming from beginning to offer online poker to now charging for parking at many casino venues.

A bill was recently introduced within the Nevada Assembly that proposes the legal age for gambling be lowered to 18 from the current age of 21. Assemblyman Jim Wheeler submitted Assembly Bill 86 which will be heard by the State Assembly Judiciary Committee in the next few weeks.

Gaming regulators do not seem interested in the proposal, including individuals associated with the Nevada Gaming Commission and the Nevada Resort Association. President of the Nevada Resort Association, Virginia Valentine stated that she is not aware of any compelling benefits when it comes to lowering the gambling age. According to Wheeler, the proposal has seen 50/50 feedback and he hopes to get feedback from the Gaming Commission as well as the Nevada Resort Association.

In other news, the state will soon be down one poker room when the eight table space at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino shuts down. Located on the Las Vegas Strip, the poker room of the casino first opened in the late 1990s and is now set to close on the 25th of April.

The plan for the poker room to shut down is part of renovation plans of the casino, where $450 million will be spent renovating the property including two new hotels. With the poker room closure, the Strip will now only have 19 poker rooms remaining. Within the past few years, the Las Vegas Strip has lost several poker rooms to see more than 100 poker tables put out of commission.
