Maying a paymentIf you are like most poker players, you look forward to cashing in after taking down a large pot while at the felt. It feels good to earn a substantial prize and even better seeing your new found wealth being counted out. However, imagine if you went to the cashier to claim your cash and you were given part of the prize money then told to come back several times to be paid. This would immediately set off an alarm in a player’s mind that something is definitely wrong. Well, this is exactly what happened in the state of California recently that saw one casino shut down by officials.

According to Sacbee.com, the Bureau of Gambling Control in the state of California shut down a casino in Sacramento due to failing to pay winnings owed to customers at the card club. The investigation first began back in October when the Casino Royale failed to pay a player tens of thousands in prize money. The Bureau then issued an emergency order to shut down the card club and stop offering poker, pai gow, etc.

The bureau states that earlier in October, a player was enjoying Pai Gow Poker when he won just over $60,000.When cashing out his winnings, he was paid $20,000 and then told to come back later in the day for more prize money. He came back later and then was told to return on another day to collect the remainder.

After an investigation was completed, the card room showed that they lacked sufficient funds by about $268,684 and was not able to cover the chips in use, the player funded jackpots, house-funded jackpots and more. The bureau had given the card club ten days to provide enough evidence that they have the cash to cover what they owe. However, by the 29th of October, the club was found to still be short by over $55,000.
